Parents worried after 52 kindergarten teachers quit their jobs

Ha Tinh - 52/69 teachers of Nguyen Du Plus International Kindergarten quit their jobs due to low salaries, causing many parents to worry.

Parents worry about not having babysitters at the beginning of the week

On the morning of August 1st, many parents still took their children to Nguyen Du Plus International Kindergarten, No. 9 Le Van Thiem Street, Thanh Sen Ward, Ha Tinh Province as usual.

However, when they came to school, parents learned that a series of teachers had stopped working to petition about salaries and some regimes and policies.

According to the initial report of the Ha Tinh Provincial Labor Federation, on the morning of August 1, 52/69 class teachers did not come to school to work.

After the incident occurred, the school requested parents to sympathize and take the children home to have time to work and dialogue with the teachers.

On August 2nd, a parent whose child is studying at school said that the family is very worried because they do not know if the school will receive children again at the beginning of next week.

This parent is paying more than 4.8 million VND per month (including tuition and meal money) for her child. Meanwhile, she learned that some teachers have worked at the school for about 2 years but the salary is only more than 5 million VND/month.

With this tuition fee, the school needs to have a more appropriate income assurance plan so that teachers can feel secure in their work. This parent said that he has not yet received a notice from next Monday, whether the school will re-admit children or not.

Teachers propose an increase of 1 million VND/month

Talking to Lao Dong Newspaper, a teacher at Nguyen Du Plus International Kindergarten said that she has worked at the school for about 2 years but the current salary is only more than 5 million VND/month.

According to this teacher, the teaching staff proposed that the school increase by 1 million VND/person/month. However, the school said that it could only increase by 500,000 VND/person/month.

If I only increase by 500,000 VND, my income will still be less than 6 million VND/month. This level is not commensurate with the workload and it is very difficult to cover living expenses" - this teacher shared.

In addition to salaries, some teachers also disagree with the regulations related to the policy of tuition fee exemption for children of officials, teachers, and staff in schools.

According to reports, previously children of teachers and staff were exempt from tuition fees. Recently, the school has set a condition that teachers must continue to work for at least 2 years after their children graduate. If the contract is terminated before this deadline, teachers may be retroactively charged tuition fees that have been exempted.

Some teachers suggested that the school not apply the above regulations.

Ms. Tran Thi Dieu Huyen - Principal of Nguyen Du Plus International Kindergarten - confirmed that on the morning of August 1, many teachers of the school stopped working.

According to Ms. Huyen, the recommendations focus on increasing salaries and abolishing the regulation on retroactive tuition collection for teachers' children in cases where teachers terminate their contracts after their children have graduated but have not continued to work at the school for 2 full years.

In the afternoon of August 1st, school leaders organized a dialogue and negotiation with teachers, but the two sides have not reached an agreement.

Mr. Ngo Dinh Van - Vice Chairman of Ha Tinh Provincial Labor Federation - said that after grasping information that many teachers stopped working, the Provincial Labor Federation directed the professional department to work with the Executive Committee of the grassroots Trade Union of the school to grasp the situation, thoughts, and aspirations of union members and workers.

At the same time, grassroots trade unions are guided to coordinate with employers to organize dialogues.

According to Mr. Van, the initial cause stems from the lack of consensus on the proposal to increase salaries and adjust some regimes and policies when signing labor contracts for the 2026-2027 school year.

Early next week, the Ha Tinh Provincial Labor Federation will coordinate with local authorities and grassroots trade unions to work with Nguyen Du Plus International Kindergarten to continue to grasp the situation and find solutions to the case.
