The gasoline filter is one of the parts often overlooked when maintaining a motorcycle. However, this detail plays an important role in keeping the fuel clean before it is delivered to the fuel supply system and engine.
According to advice from Cung Motor Vehicle Maintenance Center (Dinh Cong ward, Hanoi), gasoline filters have the task of retaining dirt and impurities mixed in the fuel before the gasoline reaches the gasoline pump and fuel injection system. Thanks to that, the internal parts of the system are limited from contacting dirt that can affect the operating process.
After a long period of use, impurities may accumulate more and more on the filter membrane. When the gasoline filter is blocked or the filtering capacity is reduced, the amount of fuel supplied to the engine may not be enough and unstable.
Users may notice symptoms such as the car running out of gas, difficulty starting the engine, unstable engine operation or increased fuel consumption.
Notably, this situation usually progresses gradually, so users find it difficult to recognize immediately. If continuing to operate for a long time, the gasoline pump may have to work harder to maintain the necessary fuel amount. The fuel injection system is also at risk of being affected by impurities.
Also according to Xe Cung Motor, if observed in reality, new gasoline filters usually have a clean filter membrane, while gasoline filters that have been used for a long time may turn dark and stick with a lot of sediment. This difference shows the amount of impurities that the part has retained during use.
Therefore, gasoline filters should be checked and replaced periodically, about 20,000 km depending on the car line and usage conditions. For cars that regularly operate in dusty environments or use unstable fuel sources, the check may need to be carried out earlier.
When the car fails to accelerate, is difficult to start, or operates unstablely, users should check the fuel system instead of continuing to use it for a long time.
The cost of replacing the gasoline filter is usually not too high, but it can help the car operate stably, limit fuel consumption and reduce the risk of incurring larger repair costs later.
