Scooters are popular thanks to their simple operation, suitable for urban traffic conditions. However, according to advice from Cung Motor Vehicle Maintenance Center (Dinh Cong ward, Hanoi), some seemingly normal habits during use can cause the engine and clutch to degrade quickly.
Start up and go right away
After a long period of stopping, especially overnight, engine oil will flow down to the bottom of the radiator. If you have just started and accelerated and moved immediately, the oil has not yet circulated fully to the lubricating positions.
According to recommendations from technicians, users should let the engine operate idle for about 5-10 seconds before moving. When the weather is cold, you can wait longer for engine oil to circulate and the engine to operate stably. However, do not leave the car running on the spot for too long.
Pulling the gas while squeezing the brakes
The habit of both accelerating and holding the brake can cause the clutch to work in a sliding state. At that time, friction details in the clutch assembly generate heat, which over time can cause the clutch bell and clutch pad to overheat and wear out quickly.
This is also one of the possible reasons why the car may experience vibration and jerking when accelerating, which users often call "brake".
Operating scooters improperly when traveling on tours
Scooters can be completely used for long journeys. However, when continuously moving on mountain passes, slopes or carrying heavy loads, drivers need to pay attention to the use of brakes and speed control.
Continuous braking when going downhill can heat up the braking system, reducing braking efficiency. In addition, inappropriate gas increase and decrease also causes the clutch to bear a larger load and heat.
Lazy to clean the clutch
Scooters use a dry clutch so dust may arise from friction materials during operation. If not checked and cleaned for a long time, accumulated dust can affect the working capacity of the clutch cluster.
Technicians recommend that users check and clean the clutch system periodically, and can refer to the milestone of about 6,000-8,000 km depending on the car model and operating conditions.
Timely maintenance helps detect wear, dust, or abnormalities early, thereby limiting vibration and prolonging the life of parts.
