Don't ignore sunscreen even when cloudy

ÁNH MAI |

Many people ignore sunscreen when it is cloudy. However, UV rays still harm the skin even without intense sunlight.

Working indoors still needs sun protection

Clouds cannot completely block ultraviolet radiation. In which, UVA rays have long wavelengths, can penetrate clouds and glass doors, and continue to affect the skin even when working at home or driving. Meanwhile, UVB rays have shorter wavelengths, so most are absorbed or blocked by ordinary glass.

According to the American Association of Dermatologists (AAD), because UVA rays can still penetrate windows, people should maintain the habit of using sunscreen daily, even when cloudy or working near windows.

Choose the right sunscreen

According to AAD recommendations, adults should prioritize sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher and clearly state "Broad Spectrum" to protect skin from both UVA and UVB rays.

In addition, instead of just choosing products with very high SPF, users need to apply enough and reapply every 2 hours if exposed to sunlight or sweating a lot.

Combine shielding to protect skin

Sunscreen is only part of the measures to protect skin from ultraviolet rays.

When having to go out, people should combine wearing sunscreen clothes, wearing wide-brimmed hats, sunglasses and limiting exposure to sunlight between 10:00 AM and 4:00 PM to reduce the risk of long-term skin damage.
