How to apply sunscreen correctly to protect skin from heat

Applying sunscreen properly not only helps protect the skin from sunlight but also limits the risk of dark skin, melasma and premature aging.

In the summer, using sunscreen is one of the important measures to protect the skin from the harmful effects of UV rays. However, for sunscreen to be effective, users need to choose products suitable for each skin type and use them correctly.

Doctor CKII Vu Thi Phuong Dung (Department of Examination, Central Dermatology Hospital) said that sunscreen is a necessary product in the summer. However, not all skin types are suitable for the same product.

According to doctors, people with oily and acne-prone skin should choose sunscreens labeled "oil free" (no oil), prioritizing gel or solution forms to limit blockage and oil secretion. Meanwhile, people with dry skin should use sunscreens supplemented with moisturizing ingredients or cream forms to help maintain skin moisture.

For people who regularly work or work outdoors, doctors recommend choosing sunscreen with an SPF of 30 to 50+ to increase skin protection against sunlight effects. When frequently exposed to sunlight, you should choose sunscreen with a high SPF to increase skin protection effectiveness.

Dr. Dung also noted that sunscreen usually works well for about 2-3 hours. People should apply sunscreen about 20 minutes before going to the sun and reapply it every 2-3 hours if exposed to a lot of sunlight.

Besides, many people believe that sunscreen is not needed indoors because they are not directly exposed to sunlight. However, this is not the correct concept. People should still use sunscreen and reapply it after about 2-3 hours to maintain skin protection effectiveness.
