Memorable SEA Games 33 Gold Medal
At SEA Games 33 held in Thailand, Nguyen Thi Ngoc shared on the central station of athletics: "I won a personal Gold Medal in this SEA Games participation. I don't know what to say, this is a very meaningful medal result for me. For the first time, I have achieved a personal Gold Medal when competing at SEA Games. I really appreciate the achievements I have made and really appreciate the teachers who guided me to achieve the results I have today.
On the athletics track, Nguyen Thi Ngoc won the Gold Medal in the women's 400m event at SEA Games 33. Not only Nguyen Thi Ngoc, the Vietnamese athletics team understands that the Gold Medal result is extremely meaningful. As for professionals, we always dominate the women's 400m track at many SEA Games with the professional companionship of Nguyen Thi Huyen and Quach Thi Lan. However, SEA Games 33 witnessed the first time the women's 400m champion was not Huyen or Lan. That is the young face Nguyen Thi Ngoc.
Going back nearly 4 years, Nguyen Thi Ngoc first participated in the Southeast Asian Games, SEA Games 31 held in 2022 in Vietnam. However, at a very young age at that time (20 years old), Nguyen Thi Ngoc was arranged by the coaching staff in the reserve group for her seniors Quach Thi Lan, Nguyen Thi Huyen, Nguyen Thi Hang... Ngoc did not officially compete at SEA Games 31.
However, this young face made an outstanding breakthrough at the 32nd SEA Games held in Cambodia in 2023 with a Gold Medal in the women's 4x400m relay. Since then, Nguyen Thi Ngoc has always been identified as one of the key quartet of the Vietnamese women's 4x400m relay team to conquer international results of the Vietnamese athletics team.
Even so, she once frankly confided: "I have always longed for a SEA Games championship result when competing individually. That expectation has come true in Thailand in 2025. I will keep this result as an unforgettable memory. And, I will always learn to accumulate experience for myself to strive harder." Closing SEA Games 33, Nguyen Thi Ngoc was one of the athletics athletes who achieved the best results with 3 Gold Medals (women's 400m, women's 4x400m relay, mixed 4x400m relay).
Athletics brings many things
Nguyen Thi Ngoc once said that if you statistically count how many medals she has won, it is difficult to count because she has achieved many achievements through tournaments at all levels. However, the most important thing that this athlete cherishes in sports, especially athletics, is that it has helped her mature more.
Ha Tinh sports professionals (Nguyen Thi Ngoc's managing unit) still remember a thin girl who trained here in the professional talent stage. Coach Nguyen Thuan of Ha Tinh athletics is one of the people who accepts to give harsh training exercises, and can even scold students for being negligent.
But it is from that very disciplined teaching that Nguyen Thi Ngoc has succeeded to this point. Ngoc believes that through each stage, when she grows up, she understands the value of teaching from expertise to awareness, lifestyle to be the most complete athlete.
When former athlete Hoang Thi Ngoc left the Vietnamese athletics team and during the time when Quach Thi Lan was banned by doping, Nguyen Thi Ngoc was considered a worthy young face to replace her seniors in the 4x400m women's relay team. Many experts have doubts about Ngoc in the early stages of training on the Vietnamese athletics team. However, the female athlete from Ha Tinh has affirmed her expertise.
Sports help me grow, but also from sports, I have more opportunities to go outside and develop achievements. Every international competition is another opportunity for me to learn from opponents, accumulate for myself. I really appreciate what I have achieved in my track and field athlete career until now," athlete Nguyen Thi Ngoc added.
Nguyen Thi Ngoc has won many Gold Medals through 9 participations in the National Athletics Championships. In the Vietnamese Athletics Team, she won the Gold Medal in the 4x400m women's relay at the 2023 Asian Championships and the Gold Medal in the 4x400m women's relay at the 2024 Asian Championships.
Last year, before going to Thailand to participate in SEA Games 33, Nguyen Thi Ngoc and her teammates won a Silver Medal in the women's 4x400m relay at the 2025 Asian Championships. If she had not achieved professional concentration and had not had an opportunity to compete in athletics, perhaps Nguyen Thi Ngoc would not have been able to achieve those results.
Furthermore, athletics has brought Nguyen Thi Ngoc the happiest thing that she married her husband - athlete Tran Dinh Son. Therefore, the female athlete greatly appreciates what she has achieved in her profession and what sports bring to her.
Waiting for a breakthrough opportunity at ASIAD 20
2026 will be Ngoc's zodiac year. She was born in 2002 (Year of the Horse). With the 400m women's Gold Medal at SEA Games 33, Nguyen Thi Ngoc is one of the Horse-year athletes with the best speed in this event in Vietnam.
Sharing about the goals ahead, Nguyen Thi Ngoc said that the top priority after SEA Games 33 is to maintain her form towards competing in ASIAD 20 in Japan. She also strives for the best results at the 2026 National Sports Games.
Ngoc is the champion of SEA Games 33, the main face of the women's 4x400m relay team. The Vietnamese athletics team takes on the responsibility of ensuring the highest achievements in the Asian arena with the women's 4x400m relay team. Nearly two years ago, the women's 4x400m relay team was carefully prepared by the Vietnamese athletics team to find a chance to win a ticket to the Paris Olympics (France) 2024. The results have not been realized. However, the professional indicators of the Vietnamese women's 4x400m relay team are assessed to have the ability to compete for medals at ASIAD 20.
Now, Nguyen Thi Ngoc and her teammates still have 7 months to prepare for ASIAD 20, so everyone is urgently entering training. There are many challenges ahead. But experts understand very well that a strengthening team is compiled from the strength of each individual. In the 4x400m women's relay team (Quach Thi Lan, Nguyen Thi Hang, Hoang Thi Minh Hanh, Nguyen Thi Ngoc), athlete Nguyen Thi Ngoc is the youngest but also has recognized professional achievements.
When asked what Nguyen Thi Ngoc's biggest wish for herself is? She once expressed: "I just want everyone to be healthy in the new year. I myself also have the health to complete the assigned tasks. Athletic athletes need most of this".
