Focus on ASIAD 20 tasks
To ensure professionalism for the key task of ASIAD 20, in the immediate future, the Vietnamese Athletics Team will train a group of athletes in key events at training grounds in Da Nang and Hanoi. Representatives of the Vietnamese Athletics Team's coaching staff said: "Important athletes who have won SEA Games 33 medals continue to practice professionally continuously from the beginning of 2026. This year, the key task is ASIAD 20. However, the Team continues to prepare the best force for some international tasks accompanying the above Games.
In the first training session of 2026, many young faces such as: Ta Ngoc Tuong, Ho Trong Manh Hung, Le Thi Tuyet Mai, Le Thi Cam Tu, Bui Thi Kim Anh... continued to be members of the Vietnamese Athletics Team. They have reached high form, winning bright medals at SEA Games 33.
The ASIAD arena is identified as a level difference and higher competitiveness compared to the SEA Games. Therefore, each athlete must clearly understand their professional preparation responsibilities.
At ASIAD 19 held in 2023 in China, the Vietnamese athletics team did not win a medal. At that time, we were very confident in the opportunity to succeed in some events (including the women's 4x400m relay) but failed. After 3 years, the Vietnamese athletics team continued to expect to have medal achievements at ASIAD 20 (held in September 2026 in Japan) in the women's 4x400m relay. When setting goals for the investment cycle, the Vietnam Athletics Federation aims to achieve 1 Gold Medal at ASIAD 20.
General Secretary of the Vietnam Athletics Federation - Mr. Nguyen Manh Hung - said that the athletes training from the beginning of 2026 of the team all have the opportunity to participate in ASIAD 20 if they achieve good form as well as are predicted to conquer medal achievements. However, each event team is cautious about their athlete force but must carefully analyze each opponent.
High spirit with the new regime
Through direct recording from the first training sessions of the new year 2026, the spirit of Vietnamese athletics players is quite comfortable. In particular, everyone is excited to receive information that they will soon have their nutrition and salary regimes changed according to Decree 349/2025/ND-CP (December 30, 2025) stipulating regimes and policies for sports team members participating in training and competition.
Player Nguyen Thi Oanh said: "I have read about the new regime to be applied by Vietnamese sports. The nutritional regime and bonus levels for athletes have been very innovative. I hope I will reach good form.
Player Quach Thi Lan expressed that the new regime to be applied has regulations on arranging careers for players after retirement, so this is what she and her teammates have more confidence in to practice and compete to the fullest of their expertise. Meanwhile, young player Bui Thi Kim Anh said: "The new regime to be applied is very significant. Each athlete will have an increased salary regime. This will be a motivation for me to practice and compete better, achieving results for Vietnamese athletics".
The Vietnamese athletics team trained 49 athletes in key events right from the beginning of 2026.
