“Facing the Infinite” comprises a series of exchange and learning activities between contemporary dancers and artists of the traditional Tuồng stage, a seminar on the potential for development of Tuồng dance, and 3 nights of performances resulting from the process of artists developing stage materials with contemporary dance language.
The 3 nights of performances took place over 3 evenings at the Hong Ha Theatre (Hanoi) last week.
The performance “Facing the Infinite” is a delicate combination of dance, lighting, and music in the form of contemporary experimental theatre. In the performance, humans face the existence of Yes and No, Memories and the Future. Not only do they face each other, but the characters also face themselves in the relationship between the inside and outside, the East and the West.
The performance explores the experiences of artists from previous rehearsals and from field activities to the ancient village of Phu Man, thereby contributing to the creation of contemporary dance art works. The work consists of three chapters: “Connecting the Ethereal Souls”, “Nothing Remains Behind” and “Dreams of Eternity” choreographed by Tu Hoang, directed by Ha Nguyen Long, and composed by Nguyen Quoc Hoang Anh. The project will be extended to 2025 with a series of events in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Amsterdam (Netherlands), and London (United Kingdom).
It is known that “Lên Ngàn” - a multi-language cultural and artistic platform - initiated the “Facing the Infinite” project with the belief that art and culture are a continuous process of accumulating experiences from the past through many generations, and we all draw inspiration from those who came before us. The data related to the process of artists' practice, including research documents, thematic documentary films, field notes from artists... will also be transferred to the community of young artists participating in the programs of the project.
