When it comes to Thai Hoa "million dollar actor", director Bui Thac Chuyen said, "I am lucky to have Thai Hoa in this film project. There are very difficult scenes, but Thai Hoa is as light as no."
The Lao Dong Newspaper reporter had a conversation with Thai Hoa when "Tunnels: The Sun in the Darkness" was occupying the box office, receiving a rain of praise from experts.
Thai Hoa was born in 1974, can be considered as a generation born and raised in peace. It is known that he once refused his role in "Tunnels: The sun in the dark". Aren't you afraid of a work with a topic of war? Or, do you have little imagery about the war to see "tunnel" is an attractive project?
- Initially, I was about to refuse because of the schedule because I had a different work plan. But, my wife persuaded me to take the role of Bay. She told me about my grandfather.
My wife's grandfather was a veteran who participated in fighting in Cu Chi. He wrote a diary about this time. I transferred the diary to director Bui Thac Chuyen. There are some details in the film that are very similar to the diary of my grandfather's grandfather.
I only read some details of the diary. After listening to my wife convincingly, I accepted to participate in the movie "Tunnels". Time later, I read and watch many online documents. I watched the documentary films about Cu Chi Tunnels, watching the excerpts of the US "rat" when sweeping in Cu Chi ...
The crew also facilitated the whole guerrilla platoon to meet the veterans who used to fight in Cu Chi to hear them talk about that time.
Those stories have leaked into me at some point.

"Tunnels: The sun in the dark" is a movie but is like a documentary film when trying to recreate the life of guerrillas in the heart of the tunnel. The cast must squeeze weight, practice traveling in the tunnel model at the time of the hot sun ... Is this the most hard movie you ever made?
- Before the film started filming, the Binh An Dong tour squadron of tourists was arranged to live together, work together, practice military training, practice topography, read the script for the diary... so when filming, we were very connected and close to each other.
We understand each other's personality and way of life. Therefore, when we enter the movie, we feel like a real platoon. If the film has the true, it is thanks to us that we have cohesive, understand each other, like the teammates.
When filming, telling the truth, I did not feel miserable, just feel happy. After a long time of working, having experienced repeated family movies. I am happy to work with a completely different character.
In this movie, any part is hard and hard. It is really a thousand times more than the films set in daily life.
When watching movies, the audience will see the scenes of sweaty actors, all of which are real sweat, because at that time was very hot. He specialized in the actor, he said, leaving the air conditioner in the tunnel for the actor to breathe a little, but we all protested. Some of you also run out to stand near the kerosene lamp to sweat more.
Due to the characteristics of this category, this film is true. But we don't see it. For me, I really like. When I looked at other parts, especially the filming, they were much more miserable than the actors.
The actor finished his shoulder, but filming must continue to do. The actor can go straight, but film must go backwards. Just back and forth, just carrying the machine, just rotating continuously in great intensity ... They did not say miserable, how did we dare to accept ourselves miserable?
So what he was happy, the happiest when making war films? As he said, he was very happy ...
- For example, my character only wears a set of clothes, every day is dirty, the soil is full, so at any time, I can lie down, everywhere. But play the role of giants, wear good clothes, expensive, walk and look back and forth.
In the film crew, we only eat roasted rice, I feel better. But playing rich, filming meals, eating 5-6 shrimps at a time, not to mention having to eat more to help act for your co -star ... Eat a lot of substances, get gout like playing.
Time before shooting, Mr. Chuyen asked the cast to lose weight, I moved to eat 1 meal a day. The wife is very sorry. But I'm happy, that diet helps me lose fat. Then there were people at the film crew who came home to help me to forge physical strength, exercise posture, use cutlery, roll around ... So there was someone who instructed to exercise without losing money, really happy.
On the set, every day filming, perhaps our actors take about 2 liters of sweat. I feel so happy, at home, just exercise, boxing, carry backpacks weighing 7 - 8kg, jogging to reduce weight, release sweat. In the tunnel like sitting in the sauna, sweating self, lightly.
After the film, the whole movie gave me a whole book of a precious souvenir. Calculated, all the happy things.
I always enjoy such a job. In the movie "Tunnels" and many previous movies or later, I always enjoy every moment when at the studio.

In a war work, when the setting is very special, human fate brings many emotions, in your opinion, how do acting techniques and personal emotions influence each other?
- When filming, I don't think much about the movie genre. I just thought of the role. I try to find the key to discover the character, thoroughly research the profile, the fate of the character.
Director Bui Thac Chuyen said, he was fortunate to have him - "a million dollar actor". There are many difficult scenes, but he acted as easy as not. What do you think about this comment, is there any favor?
- Mr. Chuyen may not tell you about extremely easy scenes but I can't do it. I think there is no difficult scene, and there is no easy scene. When I can adventure, feel, live with that moment of the character will find it easy. When under pressure, the simplest scene is also difficult.
When watching the film, the audience will not see any "not good" scenes, because if there were, the director would have cut them.
Regarding the fact that Mr. Chuyen talks about luck, I find myself the luckiest person. In the current context, finding a project like this, there are investors who spend money to make films like "Tunnels", really extremely rare.
There were times when I thought I was not done, cut my shoulder. There have been many things that happened, kept the role, participated in a project like "Tunnels", I was too lucky.
He used to be a box office comedian. Later, he switched to roles with tragic fate, taking the eyes of the audience as in "Apple tree blooming", "Mother Straw" ... Is this your intention?
- I am bored quickly. Just do a repetitive role, I will be very bored. The audience was not bored I was bored before. Honestly, I did not try to do this and that to make a mark for the audience. I like acting, love acting, and perhaps, that's what determines my image in the eyes of the audience.

In the film with a tragic color with the story of the battle underground - how does it affect you personally?
- Before the shooting of the film "Tunnels: The sun in the dark", the whole Binh An Dong platoon we went to the martyrs cemetery to burn incense. After the last scene at the set, I also went to the cemetery, bowed from afar.
Many people ask, after finishing this movie, I have filmed the war, more patriotic ... I think that patriotism is what is available in the hearts of each person, not because of watching a new movie with that affection.
When filming "Tunnels: The sun in the dark", I looked at the characters around me, only to see it was a teammate, a guerrilla platoon, not the actors.
I loved seven, my guerrilla platoon, I love the crew. Whenever receiving the news of a teammate sacrificed, the feeling at that time was really hard to describe ...
Normally, the film has the theme of war in Vietnam often does not have the revenue as expected. As a "million dollar actor", the box office guarantee face, how are you under pressure from the revenue of the "tunnel", and the films involved?
- I think that no actor can guarantee the box office, the movie itself is the biggest guarantee for itself.
If the movie is popular, I am very happy. But often, revenue is the manufacturer, of the project development team. I can't worry, the most practical thing I can contribute is, doing the role of my actor.
