To be able to go underground, the cast of Bay Theo's (Thai Hoa) tour team had to press the weights. Quang Tuan shared that he lost 14 kg, lost 77 kg to 63 kg to play Tu Dap. Actress Ho Thu Anh (playing Ba Huong) also revealed that she lost 7kg to be able to weave quickly in the dia dao.
As for actor Thai Hoa, he can't remember how much weight he has lost, he only knew that during that time, he only ate 1 meal. "When I arrived at the film crew, I only ate roasted rice. I don't remember how much weight I lost, I only know that one day, after filming, director Bui Thac Chuyen ran over and said, let's lose weight, let's be thin, we have to stay healthy. That means I am sick enough.
Not only did they have to weigh, the cast also studied military medicine, went to the shooting range, and lived a military order together for a while before the film started filming.
Thai Hoa - who is always known as the "million-dollar actress" of the Vietnamese screen, played the emotional role of Bay Theo in "Tunnel: Sun in the dark".
Responding to Lao Dong reporter, Thai Hoa said: "We had a few days at the training ground practicing shooting before filming. There are days when they have to shoot for real. At that time, I was also very scared. I am not like Bay Theo. In the film, Bay Theo held a gun and fired a bullet, but I was very scared. Since I was a child, I have never shot.
During practice, the coach showed me to fire 5 real bullets, but when I fired the third bullet, I was afraid of... losing a person.
According to Thai Hoa, the cast had to learn and practice removing guns and loading bullets very smoothly. When exercising outdoors, it is different when standing in front of the camera. To stand in front of a camera that handles guns and bullets as a natural reflex, the actor must be very proficient in all movements.

"I took advantage of the whole practice in the studio, continuously dismantled and fired shells with AK guns. The AK gunshot sound when fired was very annoying. I practiced until every movement with the gun had to become proficient as a natural reflex. When I get home, I still find a tree like a gun to hold while sleeping and practicing extra. Director Bui Thac Chuyen said that when the tourists eat and sleep with guns, they sleep with guns. So we have to practice a lot to get used to it" - Thai Hoa said.
AK guns have been widely used in the Vietnamese war since the mid 1960s. When filming "Tunnel: Sun in the dark", religious Bui Thac Chuyen shared that the film crew received great support in terms of weapons, equipment, guns, bullets... from the army and the Ministry of National Defense.
