Special film project
“Space of Time” is a special film project jointly produced by the producer and the General Department of Politics of the Vietnam People's Army to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam People's Army and the 35th anniversary of National Defense Day.
“Timeless” is not only a story about soldiers but also a picture of the continuation of tradition and dedication of generations of officers and soldiers in the Vietnam People's Army - those who have, are and will continue the cause of building and defending the Fatherland in the new situation.
Playing the role of military doctor Hoai Thu - Major, actress Huyen Sam said that she felt happy and proud to participate in a meaningful film project like "Space Time": “2024 is a very lucky year for me when I had the opportunity to participate in 3 VFC films. However, with the project "Space Time", I have many more special emotions. As a professional soldier, my family has many relatives who are officers and soldiers, when I was able to participate in a film about soldiers, I felt very proud and grateful. This is a film celebrating the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam People's Army, so that pride is multiplied.
Soldiers, whether in war or peace, always put the interests of the people first, always fight for the people, for the Fatherland. This is also the first time I have worn my familiar daily military uniform to the audience, so I am very excited when the film airs."
As a soldier, filming is not afraid of hardship.
Huyen Sam was born in 1987, currently holds the rank of Major of the Army Drama Theater.
In a conversation with Lao Dong Newspaper reporter, Huyen Sam shared: “I have spent 10 years in the army, studied and trained in military discipline, so the style of a soldier is ingrained in my blood. However, my professional expertise and the character are different, so I also need to learn a lot to make my role more realistic and convincing.
Before playing the role of doctor Hoai Thu, I asked the theater's military doctor to instruct me on how to examine patients, how to hold antiseptic tools, and how to bandage basic wounds so that I wouldn't be clumsy while filming."
With the film “Space of Time”, Huyen Sam admitted that the entire crew, from actors, directors to staff, all worked very hard. Thanks to that, the filming process left her with many memorable memories: “Participating in the project, I understand more about the hardships and difficulties that soldiers through each period had to overcome. I am truly grateful to be a soldier who gets to make a film about the Vietnam People’s Army.

Compared to other roles, the character of Doctor Thu had much less difficulty during filming. However, the memory of the first time filming with a helicopter will definitely stay with me forever.
When I filmed the big scene of the rescuers using the helicopter, I didn't anticipate the power of the propeller, so when the helicopter landed, my face was no longer covered in black powder but a layer of dust so thick that I couldn't open my eyes.
At that time, I had a first aid kit on my shoulder and an IV bottle around my neck to film the scene of carrying the injured person onto the helicopter. Carrying heavy loads and running at the same time, the wind from the propeller was very strong, creating resistance that made us very tired.
The weather was very cold that day and I had to wear a short-sleeved shirt, which made my lips turn purple. It was a really difficult scene, but I told myself that I was a soldier, and it was not worth it if I could not do such a little bit of hard work. Thanks to that, I had the motivation to complete the scene. After finishing this scene, People's Artist Ngoc Thu saw that I was purple and exhausted, so she took off her coat and put it on me. Those actions really warmed my heart and I will remember them forever."
Major Huyen Sam commented that with meticulous and careful investment and profound content, "Space of Time" is a high-quality project, deeply and authentically depicting the image of Uncle Ho's soldiers.
Through the film, the audience will witness the tragic images of soldiers in war, doctors and nurses fighting day and night to save the lives of their comrades amidst bombs and bullets. Or soldiers in peacetime who are full of enthusiasm, patriotism, courage and the spirit of "complete any mission, overcome any difficulty, defeat any enemy".
“Each character in “Space and Time” has its own mark, but the character that left the most impression on me is still Lieutenant Colonel Le Nguyen Dai, played by Manh Truong.
The image of Lieutenant Colonel Le Nguyen Dai is the most authentic image of Uncle Ho's soldiers, daring to do, daring to take responsibility, always putting the people's interests first, brave, resourceful, not afraid of difficulties, ready to rush to places where people need soldiers the most" - Major Huyen Sam shared.
