The mark is affirmed
Nguyen Thi Thu Thuy has just returned to Vietnam with the result of winning the Gold Medal at the 2025 Asian Wushu Cup (closed in China on July 7). The female player expressed: "I won the Gold Medal in the women's 60kg weight class this time. The victory is one of the memories I really miss when I overcame the strong opponent of the home team. This achievement of mine is not only an individual result, it is the pride of the whole team.
In the final match of the women's 60kg weight class, Nguyen Thi Thu Thuy carried out highly effective foot attacks to score an excellent point, surpassing the convincing victory over opponent Zhang Xiaoyu (China). If only counting the achievements from 2025 to now, she has won two important results including: Gold Medal of the 2025 Asian Wushu Cup and Gold Medal of the 2025 World Chess Championship.
Nguyen Thi Thu Thuy added: I also dont know what to say about my results because I keep in mind that when I am on the ring, I have to try my best. Currently, fighters from many countries are very good at the level of chess. This shows that the gap in level between athletes is narrowed, so any tournament must be carefully prepared and focused on competing.
Nguyen Thi Thu Thuy said that she started focusing on the Vietnam Wushu Team in 2016. During nearly 10 years as an athlete of the Vietnam Wushu Team, through each training period, the female athlete affirmed that she had accumulated a lot of experience in competition when participating in tournaments at all professional levels.
The female player acknowledged: In martial arts, especially in combat, the line between wins and losses is very close. I have had losses in my training and competition journey. After each loss, I look back to see why I lost to overcome and improve my skills better. I clearly identify myself as a martial arts athlete who must achieve the highest will, never give up".
Evaluating Nguyen Thi Thu Thuy, head of the wushu department (Vietnam Department of Physical Education and Sports) - Mr. Vu Van Trung highly appreciated the professional advancement of this female martial artist in recent years. In many international arenas, Thu Thuy made her mark to win the Gold Medal to bring glory to the Fatherland.
Opportunity is challenge
In 2019, martial artist Nguyen Thi Thu Thuy was first sent by the coaching staff of the Vietnam Wushu Team to compete in the World Wushu Championship and she reached the finals of the women's 56kg weight class. Thu Thuy lost to Chinese fighter Li Zhiqin, so she accepted the result of the Silver Medal. After four years, Thu Thuy continued to prepare professionally and returned strongly, winning the Gold Medal at the 2023 World Wushu Championship.
I still remember the final match at the 2023 World Wushu Championship, I was nervous because the match was very important. However, the coach encouraged me to focus on playing to the best of my ability. I didn't want to miss the world championship any more, so I tried to achieve the final result of a victory that made me extremely excited, Thu Thuy recalled.
When asked Thu Thu Thuy what was the most memorable result in her international competition career, the female player immediately shared: "That is the championship achievement I won at the 2023 World Wushu Championship". In this tournament, Nguyen Thi Thu Thuy qualified for the final of the women's 60kg weight class, competing against Roshibina devi Naorem (India).
The results recorded the first time Nguyen Thi Thu Thuy won the Gold Medal at the World Championship. For Nguyen Thi Thu Thuy personally, the victory over Roshibina devi Naorem also has another important meaning of paying off her debt because in the previous match she lost to this opponent in the semi-finals of the Asian Asian Asian Cup 19 wushu (when Thu Thuy won the Bronze Medal).
After two years of becoming a world champion, Nguyen Thi Thu Thuy expressed that she has not changed much in life. However, her sports career has had positive results.
Sports are a movement, Thu Thuy herself actively exercises every day and this year, she aims to successfully conquer the 2025 World Wushu Championship. The tournament will be held in Brazil from August 31 to September 7. Nguyen Thi Thu Thuy is expected to be a member of the Vietnam Wushu Team to participate in defending the Gold Medal she is holding.
In the 2025 X-ray World Cup recently held, I competed and grasped many more opponents in my weight class. Surely, many people will continue to participate in the 2025 World Wushu Championship. Playing as the defending champion will be difficult to avoid pressure, but I will always maintain my expertise, the female player shared.
Finding success with the 33rd SEA Games
In 2008, Nguyen Thi Thu Thuy turned 10 years old and officially participated in sports training in her hometown of Bac Giang (old). Thu Thuy once said that she likes to practice and play strong sports because she chose to become a martial arts athlete.
However, one of the things that made Nguyen Thi Thu Thuy want to become an athlete was that after watching on TV and seeing many Vietnamese athletes win at the SEA Games, singing the National Anthem when receiving medals, she was very excited and wanted to do so.
I just thought of not knowing when I would have the opportunity to be a national athlete, compete in the SEA Games, win a Gold Medal and be cheered by everyone, Thu Thuy said. What she wanted was Thu Thuy's reservations when she started practicing sports and martial arts.
As an adult, a top player of the Vietnam Wushu Team, Nguyen Thi Thu Thuy conquered the dream she had high expectations for. She won the Gold Medal in the SEA Games arena. The results she achieved at the 31st SEA Games (May 2022) held in Vietnam.
Surprisingly, although Nguyen Thi Thu Thuy is a world champion, the result of the 31st SEA Games Gold Medal is the only SEA Games medal that this female boxer has in her collection of achievements. In many previous SEA Games and SEA Games 32 in Cambodia, Thu Thuy did not have the opportunity to participate because her weight class was not included in the official program.
With the 33rd SEA Games, host Thailand will organize two weightlifting classes for women in wushu. One of them is the women's 60kg category. This is a familiar content for Nguyen Thi Thu Thuy and she is at the top of the world. Therefore, Nguyen Thi Thu Thuy will have a second chance to participate in the most important sports arena in Southeast Asia.
The female player shared: "There is still a lot of time from now until the 33rd SEA Games. I focus on doing well the tasks assigned in each tournament. If I participate in the 33rd SEA Games, I will be determined to achieve the best results, but all teams are preparing strong players to participate, so the coaching staff is very careful in preparing me professionally at the present time".
