Preliminary registration data of countries participating in the 33rd SEA Games was revealed, showing that sports delegations are preparing large forces, because above all, the Southeast Asian Games always have their own appeal.

The strong force of thousands of players

According to the Organizing Committee of the 33rd SEA Games, there are 12,506 athletes from 11 countries registered to participate: Timor-Leste: 132 athletes, Brunei: 250 athletes, Laos: 598 athletes, Myanmar: 1,077 athletes, Singapore: 1,481 athletes, Philippines: 1,499 athletes, Cambodia: 1,515 athletes, Indonesia: 1,548 athletes, Malaysia: 1,580 athletes, host Thailand: 1,807 athletes and Vietnam: 1,019 athletes. 11 countries are in the preliminary registration stage and when the registration period ends (September 1), the number of athletes will be officially decided.

Compared to the 32nd SEA Games held in Cambodia or the 31st SEA Games held in Vietnam, the number of athletes temporarily registering for the 33rd SEA Games is outstanding. At the 31st SEA Games, host Vietnam was the sports delegation that registered the largest number of athletes participating in the competition, including 965 people.

The Thai and Philippine sports delegations have the second largest and third largest forces with the number of athletes of 888 and 656 people respectively. At the 32nd SEA Games in Cambodia, the Cambodian sports delegation participated the most with 896 athletes, while the Philippines sports had 860 athletes, and Thailand sports participated with 846 athletes.

According to preliminary figures, the 33rd SEA Games has 8 countries registered with over 1,000 athletes (Myanmar, Singapore, Philippines, Indonesia, Cambodia, Malaysia, Vietnam and Thailand). host Thailand registered 1,807 athletes in advance. And if this is the final official figure, Thailand will be recognized by the Southeast Asian Sports Federation as the sports delegation that registered the most outstanding athlete force ever.

All are urgent with the 33rd SEA Games

On December 9, the 33rd SEA Games will open. Currently, the data on the athlete forces of 11 countries from the Organizing Committee of the 33rd SEA Games is for reference. But it can be seen that no country in Southeast Asia takes the SEA Games seriously.

In early June 2025, the Organizing Committee of host Thailand sent a letter to the National Olympic Committees of 10 countries to officially invite each country to participate in the 33rd SEA Games.

This Congress has 51 official topics (a total of 66 topics, sub-topics) but 11 countries are keeping the preparation and official forces confidential. Each sports delegation still has enough time to review their forces, so they have not made a specific decision. Vietnamese sports are also in the process of preparing for the most active force.

At the working session of the Executive Committee of the Vietnam Olympic Committee, it was shared that Vietnamese sports will register to participate in 45 sports and sub-events (out of a total of 66 sports and sub-events) of the 33rd SEA Games. The decision is being carefully calculated.

A representative of the High Performance Sports Department (Vietnam Department of Physical Education and Sports) confirmed that all national sports teams with the mission of competing in the 33rd SEA Games are training and competing in amatch to ensure their strength.

However, the selection of participants is assessed on many weaknesses and above all, professional capacity and the ability to predict the possibility of winning a medal at the 33rd SEA Games.
