Opportunity to access affordable social housing
On February 28, a representative of the Trade Union Institution Project Management Board of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor said that the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor has just approved the investment policy for a social housing project in Ben Tre province. This project has a land use area of more than 3.3 hectares, the investment scale of 4 7-storey apartment buildings, 2 2-storey garages, gardens, internal traffic, outdoor parking lots, sports areas and outdoor stages... The total investment of the project is more than 554.5 billion VND from the Trade Union's financial resources.
The project implementation location is at the resettlement area and workers' housing to serve Giao Long industrial park (Giao Long commune, Chau Thanh district, Ben Tre province), the project implementation period is 3 years (2025-2028).
According to the representative of the Trade Union Institution Project Management Board, the investment in the construction of the Trade Union Social Housing Project in Ben Tre aims to serve union members and workers to access social housing. Currently, the unit is coordinating with the authorities of Ben Tre province to carry out land handover procedures, and the above project is expected to start construction in October 2025. In Tien Giang, the second phase of the Trade Union Institution Project is also expected to start construction at the end of 2025" - a representative of the Trade Union Institution Project Management Board informed.
Workers are happy
According to the reporter of Lao Dong Newspaper, workers working in the industrial parks of nearly the two projects are eagerly waiting for the start date.
Mr. Nguyen Huu Duc - working for a business in Trung An Industrial Park (My Tho City, Tien Giang Province) - shared that he is currently renting a house for 800,000 VND/month. Most of the rooms are small and damp".
The Vietnam General Confederation of Labor's investment in building social housing in Tien Giang makes me very happy. When completed, the project will help workers like us have the opportunity to rent social housing at low prices, demonstrating the concern of the Trade Union" - Mr. Duc shared.
Ms. Mai Hong Thuy - a worker at a company in Giao Long Industrial Park, Chau Thanh District, Ben Tre Province - said that through the press, she grasped the information that the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor had decided to invest in a Trade Union institution project in Chau Thanh District (Ben Tre Province). This will help workers access social housing for rent at low prices and have a spacious place to ensure stable housing.
Mr. Nguyen Phuc Linh - Chairman of the Ben Tre Provincial Federation of Labor - informed that the Trade Union social housing project in Ben Tre has completed the procedures and documents with more than 65%. The Ben Tre Provincial Federation of Labor will continue to proactively coordinate with relevant departments and branches to advise on the next steps to ensure the groundbreaking in October 2025 to celebrate the Party Congresses at all levels.
According to Mr. Hoang Khac Tinh - Permanent Vice President of the Tien Giang Provincial Federation of Labor, in order to soon bring workers to access housing in the Trade Union Institution project in Tien Giang, the Tien Giang Provincial Federation of Labor continues to coordinate with the Trade Union Institution Management Board to start the project in October 2025.
