Xuan and her husband are both workers. Xuan has worked for a company in the Hanoi Industrial - Export Processing Zone for 18 years, her husband has worked for 15 years. They currently have 4 children, of which the 3 older children have been sent back to their hometown in Bac Giang for their grandparents to take care of, only the youngest child, 15 months old, lives with them. Her husband's hometown is Hoang Hoa, Thanh Hoa.
They are renting a 20m2 room in Sap Mai village, Vong La, Dong Anh. Every month, they pay 2 million VND for rent; send 3 million VND to their grandparents to take care of their 3 older children; and for their youngest child, they spend about 6 million VND on diapers, milk, etc.
As Ms. Xuan and her husband shared, the luckiest thing for them as well as many workers in difficult circumstances is that they are always cared for by the Trade Union, from the Company Trade Union, the Trade Union of Hanoi Industrial and Export Processing Zones to the Hanoi City Labor Federation.
Ms. Xuan said that before, when Tet holiday was approaching, her husband and wife could not concentrate on work because they were worried about the transportation back to Thanh Hoa. After finishing work on the last day of the lunar year, the couple and their children carried their belongings out to catch the bus. Every time the bus was crowded, the parents could bear it, but the children often cried because they were stuck.
But for the past 5 years, our family has not had to endure the crowded bus because we have been able to ride the free bus of the Union. The bus is spacious, each person has a seat, there is room for luggage, and we do not pick up passengers along the way. For the past 5 years, my husband and I have not had to carry our child out on the street to catch a bus home for Tet because of the Union" - Ms. Xuan shared.
Ms. Xuan is one of 1,200 union members and workers in Thang Long Industrial Park with especially difficult circumstances who were arranged free transportation by the Hanoi City Labor Federation to return home to celebrate Tet on January 25, the 26th day of the 12th lunar month of the year of the Dragon.
Understanding the worries about transportation of workers working far from home every Tet holiday and in order to motivate workers to work with peace of mind and produce well, on the occasion of Tet At Ty 2025, the City Labor Federation supported 5,000 cash bus tickets for workers with a total amount of 1.77 billion VND; supported vehicles to take 1,200 workers of the Industrial - Export Processing Zones Trade Union back to their hometowns to celebrate Tet with their families.
Destinations include Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, Ha Tinh and some northern provinces. In addition, the Labor Federations of districts, towns, and industry unions have also implemented and organized programs to support means of transport and train tickets to bring disadvantaged workers in the area back to their hometowns to celebrate Tet with their families.
This is the 17th consecutive year that the City Trade Union at all levels has organized this activity. Up to now, there have been thousands of trips by businesses in coordination with grassroots trade unions to take workers home to celebrate Tet and to welcome workers back to work after Tet.
