On September 20, at the Ca Mau Provincial Multi-purpose Sports Center (Bac Lieu ward), the Ca Mau Provincial People's Committee opened the 1st Ca Mau Provincial Sports Festival in 2026.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Mr. Ngo Vu Thang - Vice Chairman of Ca Mau Provincial People's Committee - said that the Congress takes place in conditions of large area, difficult facilities and funding, especially when the province is implementing a two-level local government model.

To create conditions for people to participate, the Congress Steering Committee organized cluster competitions. As a result, grassroots-level Congresses were deployed in 16 clusters, with the participation of 64/64 communes and wards.
Along with localities, departments, agencies, branches, and provincial-level units organized many sports festivals, attracting more than 12,000 athletes. Through the tournaments, outstanding athletes were selected to participate in the provincial-level final round.
At the provincial-level Congress, nearly 1,700 athletes from 22 delegations will compete in 19 sports. The delegations come from localities, departments, branches, socio-political organizations, businesses and educational institutions in the province.

According to Mr. Ngo Vu Thang, the Congress is an opportunity to realistically assess the physical education and sports movement at the grassroots level, and at the same time discover and select promising athletes to supplement the force for high-performance sports in the province.
Through the Congress, Ca Mau also aims to select forces to participate in the 10th National Sports Games in 2026.
