Education on food traceability for primary school students in Ho Chi Minh City

HCMC - Equipping knowledge about food traceability for primary school students is being deployed in HCMC through intuitive, easy-to-understand videos.

Recently, issues related to counterfeit food, fraudulent origin and abuse of additives in Vietnam have been continuously reflected, raising great concern in society. In that context, the need to equip children with basic knowledge becomes increasingly urgent.

From the above reality, within the framework of the S-Gallery Cultural Library project chaired by the Center for Information and Education Programs (HCMC Department of Education and Training), a short video introducing the concept of "export origin" has been deployed at a number of primary schools in the city since November 2025.

"Original Merit" is a system that allows determining where food is produced, by whom and by what process. According to the Codex Alimentarius Committee - a joint agency of UNESCO and WHO - this is an important tool in managing food safety according to international standards.

During the activities at school, students watched videos, learned the meaning of traceability and discussed the origin of food in daily life.

Through intuition, the program aims to help students initially form safe and reliable food recognition skills.

According to the plan, in December, this content introduction activity will be held at three primary schools including Chuong Duong, Hoa Binh and Tran Hung Dao (HCMC).

The documents used in the program were developed under the professional supervision of the Information Center and the Education Program, to ensure suitability, ease of understanding and accuracy for primary school students.

In the coming time, the program is expected to continue to be expanded at a number of schools in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi, contributing to spreading awareness of food safety in the educational environment.
