Students choose a career based on tuition, income and job opportunities

Ho Chi Minh City - Instead of chasing trending (hot) industries, many students choose careers in a realistic direction, considering tuition fees, income and job opportunities.

No longer simply deciding according to preferences, many students actively calculate the long term, considering both financial ability and career prospects.

What I care most about is how much money I can earn after studying, whether it is suitable for myself and whether the tuition fee is suitable for my family's conditions or not," Nguyen Quoc Cuong (12th grade, Tre Viet Primary - Secondary - High School, Ho Chi Minh City) shared at the "Future Fest" event held at Van Lang University recently with nearly 6,500 students attending.

Cuong said he will prioritize choosing schools near home to reduce living costs and limit financial pressure.

Similarly, Nguyen Ngoc Trung (12th grade, Long Hai - Phuoc Tinh High School, Ho Chi Minh City) is learning about architecture and focusing on job opportunities after graduation.

According to Master Le Hai Yen - Deputy Head of PR and Brand Department, Van Lang University, students' concern for practicality is an inevitable trend in the context of a competitive labor market and rapid technological development.

However, Ms. Yen also said that if students only rely on tuition fees or income to choose, they are likely to fall into short-term decisions.

You need to understand yourself clearly, know what fields you are suitable for and have strengths in to develop long-term," Ms. Yen said.

According to Ms. Yen, a career is a long-term journey. Trends may change, but a sustainable foundation is still suitability and passion.

Instead of worrying about AI replacing humans, students should learn how to master technology, and at the same time equip themselves with adaptive skills and a lifelong learning spirit to expand career opportunities," Ms. Yen emphasized.
