The Vietnam Fire Prevention and Fighting and Rescue Association has just organized gratitude and recognition activities to honor the heroic sacrifices of officers and soldiers of the armed forces, as well as volunteers participating in disaster response and rescue work during storm No. 3 - 2024.
During the working trip in Yen Bai province, the delegation of the Vietnam Fire Prevention and Rescue Association coordinated with the Youth Union of the Ministry of Public Security to visit and encourage the family of Mr. Nguyen Van Thi (Residential Group No. 5, Yen Binh Town, Yen Binh District, Yen Bai) - a volunteer participating in relief efforts for people in Yen Bai city affected by storm No. 3.
During the days affected by storm No. 3, in Yen Bai city, there were many relief groups and philanthropists with many types of vehicles and goods coming to rescue and assist people affected by storms and floods, and to evacuate them from dangerous areas.
The rescue team of Mr. Nguyen Van Thi and 4 others from Yen Binh town went to Yen Bai city to help rescue people for many days, and has a lot of experience in rescue work.
At around 9am on September 10, Nguyen Van Thi's rescue team of 5 people, sitting on a boat, went to Le Hong Phong Street, Nguyen Thai Hoc Ward, Yen Bai City, where many people were trapped due to rising floodwaters and dangerous whirlpools. Due to the strong currents and deep whirlpools, the boat crashed into the garage door and capsized, causing all 5 people to fall into the water about 2m deep. Nguyen Van Thi was crushed by the boat, fell into the water and died, another person was injured.
In recognition of these contributions and sacrifices, the President of the Vietnam Fire Prevention and Rescue Association has awarded a Certificate of Gratitude and Merit to Mr. Nguyen Van Thi. The Association's working delegation presented this Certificate of Gratitude and Merit along with 20,000,000 VND from the Association's "For a Peaceful Life" fund to Mr. Nguyen Van Thi's family.
In addition, the Vietnam Fire Prevention and Rescue Association has carried out gratitude work for officers and soldiers of the Police and Army forces who heroically sacrificed their lives while performing the task of responding to natural disasters and rescuing victims during storm No. 3.
These sacrifices are clear evidence of the spirit of selflessness for the community, always ready to face danger to protect the lives of compatriots and will forever be remembered in the hearts of the nation.
