Mentioning Dong Dao, audiences remember her emotional voice associated with folk and lyrical music. However, few people know that the female singer's fate with art began in her school days.
According to Dong Dao, from a young age she loved singing and often sang along to songs played on the radio. Thanks to her outstanding talent, the female singer is constantly chosen by teachers to participate in art programs and singing competitions.
From small competitions at school to larger festivals, I was lucky to win prizes. That is what motivated me to pursue the path of art," Dong Dao shared.
Later, the female singer studied at an art school to receive formal vocal training. However, according to Dong Dao, school knowledge is only the initial foundation. The most important thing for an artist is practical experiences in the process of working.
When I first graduated, I had technique but was still quite rustic. Only when I sang a lot and experienced a lot, did I gradually find my own color. Artists have to learn their whole lives, learn from life and from their own stumbles," the female singer confided.
After more than four decades of artistic activity, Dong Dao believes that the most important thing for a singer is not technique or fame, but the ability to touch the audience's emotions.
According to the female singer, a successful performance needs to create a unique impression right from the first lines of the song. At the same time, the artist must clearly understand the message of the song to convey emotions in the most truthful way to the listener.
Although always known as an artist wholeheartedly devoted to her profession, Dong Dao admits that she once went through a period of stagnation. At one point, the music genre she pursued was no longer the mainstream trend of the market, causing performance opportunities to decrease significantly.
I once thought about stopping. But the further away from the stage, the more I miss the profession. Seeing colleagues perform, I miss the lights, miss the audience. In the end, I realized I couldn't live without music. The longer I sing, the more I love the profession," the female singer confided.
Currently, besides performing, Dong Dao also participates in teaching and supporting young singers. For the female singer, the greatest joy is not in the achievements she has achieved, but in still living with music every day.
In the near future, Dong Dao will continue to accompany "Let Me Sing 2026" as a judge. The program airs at 9pm on June 17 on THVL1 channel.
