Artist Nguyen Tien: "Painting must live with the audience's emotions

DI PY |

Artist Nguyen Tien believes that paintings are not only for hanging on the wall but also reflect the audience's emotions.

Artist Nguyen Tien attracted attention when bringing many types of performance paintings such as fire paintings, sand paintings, glitter paintings, water paintings to the stage of the program "Shining Passion" broadcast on VTV1. Sharing with reporters, he said that painting is not only for display but also must be directly connected with the emotions of viewers.

What made you bring painting from the exhibition room to the television stage?

- I always think painting does not only exist in the exhibition space. When combined with music, light and performing arts, the work can tell the story in a more visual way, so that the audience not only admires the completed painting but also witnesses the creative process.

That is also what I want to do when participating in "Shining Passion".

The fire painting performance opening the program left many impressions on the audience. What do you remember most?

- Fire painting is a type that requires very high accuracy. When combined with folk contemporary dance, I want to create a space that is both magical and energetic.

The moment the flame revealed the program logo on stage along with the applause of the audience is a very unforgettable memory for me.

After that, he continued to introduce dynamic sand paintings about his homeland Vietnam. Why did he choose this material?

- Sand is a rustic material but has a very good storytelling ability. Just from small grains of sand, I can recreate fields, rivers, roofs or Vietnamese people.

The interesting thing is that the image continuously transforms to music without dialogue. I want to convey love for my homeland in a gentle, close way.

The glitter painting performance about motherhood also received many positive feedbacks.

- Mother's love is always a topic that touches everyone's heart. I combine glitter paintings with the sound of the moon lute to create a harmony between images and music.

What makes me happiest is that many audiences share that they miss their mothers after watching the performance. For an artist, it is the most meaningful gift.

In your opinion, where does the attraction of performance painting lie?

- Unlike a completed painting, the performance painting allows the audience to follow the entire creative process. Each stroke takes place directly and cannot be repeated.

When painting is combined with music, light and stage, the work is not only seen but also felt with emotion. That is what makes the attractiveness of this art form.

Looking back at the mark at "Shining Passion", what do you want in the upcoming journey?

- This is a memorable milestone because it helps performance paintings get closer to television viewers. I will continue to explore new ways of expression so that painting not only stops at being admired, but can also touch the emotions of viewers.

I believe art only truly has vitality when it creates connection with people.

Thank you for the conversation!
