We are all trying here" (Vietnamese title: Cuộc chiến trong chúng ta) tells the story of Hwang Dong Man (Koo Kyo Hwan) - who always feels left behind among successful friends. Carrying self-doubt, jealousy and skepticism, he begins his journey to find peace and meaning in life.
For 20 years nurturing the dream of making films, Dong Man is often seen as "unemployed". However, behind it is a busy life with many different jobs. He teaches screenwriting at an academy, inspiring students about cinema, and also doing extra work serving parties to cover living expenses.
Despite being busy with many jobs, his passion for cinema is still the center of Dong Man's life. He spends all his free time watching movies, searching for inspiration and diligently writing the script "We Create Weather" in his small room.
The character's journey is not only a story about a distant dream, but also reflects the persistent efforts of a person who always tries to prove his self-worth, regardless of surrounding prejudices.
According to the production team, Hwang Dong Man may look as if he is standing still, but in fact he is someone who constantly tries. "Through Koo Kyo Hwan's emotional acting, the story will bring warmth and empathy to those who have felt insecure or lost".
Meanwhile, Koo Kyo Hwan said he had a very special feeling when approaching the character. "It felt like my diary was exposed". The actor said that the more he read, the more he felt the story was like "secretly reading everyone's diary", and expressed his impression of the way screenwriter Park Hae Young exploited the hidden corners in people's inner selves.
Koo Kyo Hwan also mentioned a line that impressed him: "I am that kind of person. If someone treats me well even a little bit, I will give them everything. But why should I be good to those who don't like me? I'm like arched paper - if they are acidic, I'm also acidic; if they are alkaline, I'm also alkaline.
He said that the closeness in the dialogue is what surprised him and the words often used in life appear very naturally through the character.
The movie "We are all trying here" will be broadcast on April 18.
