Attracting hundreds of students to participate
Implemented from July 2025, to date, the "green-shirted tutor" class model implemented by the Pham Van Dong University Union at the Provincial Social Work Center and Phu Hoa Orphanage has helped many students in difficult circumstances and disabilities make clear progress.
The model attracts about 200 students from the Faculties of Natural Education, Foreign Languages, and Information Technology to participate. Students proactively arrange their schedules, taking turns maintaining regular classes every day, regardless of sun or rain.
Currently, students directly tutor and support the learning of 40 young children living at the Provincial Social Work Center and Phu Hoa Orphanage.

From Monday to Sunday, at exactly 6:30 PM, dozens of students from Pham Van Dong University are present at the Quang Ngai Provincial Social Work Center. In familiar green delegation uniforms, they bring enthusiasm, patience and warm smiles to accompany the children on their learning journey.
Not only lacking the love of their families, some children also have physical disabilities, making it more difficult to absorb knowledge. Therefore, depending on each case, each student is supported by 2-3 students to tutor, answer homework questions and encourage their spirit when encountering obstacles.
In the small classroom, the image of Tran Thi Thuy An - a first-year student of the Department of Natural Education - patiently guiding a little girl to do Math, and turning to help another boy practice reading Vietnamese has become familiar. According to An, for the children to improve, in addition to their own efforts, the most important thing is the persistence and understanding of the teacher.
Thuy An shared that the children in this special class lack care from their parents, and their psychology is easily affected, so in the early days, teaching encountered many difficulties. "We have to teach with both patience and love, not being hasty when the children learn slowly, but always encouraging and motivating them to gradually find joy in learning," Thuy An said.
Accompanying, lighting up dreams
Not only imparting knowledge, the "green-shirted tutors" also spend time learning about each student's circumstances. In each class, they integrate life skills, tell stories about the will to rise up, about optimism in the midst of difficulties, thereby helping them know how to face and overcome challenges. Thanks to this, many students become more open, more confident and make clear progress in their studies.
Living at the Provincial Social Work Center for 3 years, L.T. K. N (7 years old) gradually got used to the rhythm of life here. Special family circumstances, father leaving, mother suffering from neurological disorders made K.N's health not as good as her peers.
Although still shy, K.N is very obedient. She attentively listens to her siblings instruct her to do Math, carefully practicing each stroke. Every time she is praised, she shyly scratches her head, with a timid but joyful smile.
I dream of becoming a teacher, so I will try to study really hard so that I can teach like my siblings in the future," K.N confided.
Talking to a reporter from Lao Dong Newspaper, Mr. Nguyen Thu Trang - Director of Quang Ngai Provincial Social Work Center - said that there are currently 25 students participating in tutoring for children at the Center. Thanks to that, the learning results of children have clearly improved.
Previously, many students were still confused in learning methods, but now they have gradually formed self-awareness in life and study. Especially, for those who do not have parents, the companionship and guidance of senior students not only helps them improve in their studies but also equips them with necessary skills in life.
