Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death in Vietnam, of which coronary artery disease is the main cause of acute myocardial infarction.
Dr. Ho Minh Tuan, Head of the Department of Cardiology and Interventional Cardiology, FV Hospital, said that stroke has a high risk of recurrence of 7-20% in the first year and 16-35% in the fifth year.
Replacing the major artery valve through the skin (TAVI) is becoming a treatment solution for atherosclerosis that is attracting great attention from experts. In Vietnam, FV pioneers in updating new-generation TAVI techniques.
According to Dr. Shargunandass Iynam - a cardiovascular intervention expert at Serdang Cardiovascular Center (Malaysia), TAVI is a minimalist invasive technique that has gradually become routine in the world.
Through a Tube that carries a blood vessel in the thighs or a small incision in the chest, the doctor will place an artificial valve in the location of the damaged aortic valve.
After more than 20 years of development, TAVI has been increasingly improved with a simpler process, increased valve durability and no need for total anesthesia.
Dr. Shargunandass said that TAVI is currently indicated for patients with severe atherosclerosis with symptoms, and may be extended to both asymptotes or young patients, especially with double-leaf valves.
