A serious labor accident has just occurred at a kitchen in Hai Phong, causing a 36-year-old woman to suffer severe hand injuries and have to undergo surgery to amputate her limb to ensure her life.
The victim is Ms. L.T. M (36 years old, Hai Phong). While working at the kitchen, her hand was unfortunately caught in a working meat grinder. The accident caused serious hand injuries, almost the entire circumference of the hand was affected.
Immediately after the incident, Ms. M. was taken to Chi Linh General Hospital for initial first aid. However, due to the complex injury, the victim was quickly transferred to Viet Duc Friendship Hospital. When admitted to the hospital, her hand was still stuck in the meat grinder.
Doctors said that the metal structure of the grinder obscured the damaged area, making it impossible for conventional X-rays to fully assess the condition of bones and soft tissue. Faced with this emergency and complex situation, the medical team decided to take the patient to the emergency operating room to remove the device. At the same time, the C-arm scan system during surgery was used to accurately determine the extent of damage to bones, joints, tendons and blood vessels.
Dr. Tran Manh Hung, Department of Lower Branch Surgery, Viet Duc Friendship Hospital - who directly participated in the surgery - said that although the patient was given first aid and transferred to the hospital in time, the extent of the injury was too severe. To limit complications and ensure safety for the patient, doctors were forced to order amputation of 1/3 of the lower right forearm.
Medical experts also warn that accidents related to grinders and mixers in food processing facilities still pose many risks if workers are subjective or do not grasp safety rules. Workers should absolutely not put their hands into the mouth of the machine when the device is operating, always disconnect the power before cleaning or removing trapped food, and use specialized push tools and appropriate labor protection equipment.
In addition, regular inspection and maintenance of equipment also play an important role in preventing accidents. In case of incidents, it is necessary to immediately cut off the power source, perform proper first aid and quickly take the victim to a specialized medical facility for timely treatment, minimizing the risk of long-term sequelae.
