On June 1, at Long Chau Ward People's Committee, Vinh Long Provincial Department of Health coordinated with local authorities to organize the Launching Ceremony of the General Health Examination and Free Screening Campaign for people in the province. The program is connected online to 123 communes, wards and medical examination and treatment facilities throughout the province.
Speaking at the launching ceremony, Dr. Ho Thi Thu Hang - Director of Vinh Long Provincial Department of Health - said that the campaign marks an important shift of the health sector from "passive treatment" thinking to "proactive prevention", taking early and remote disease prevention as a priority task to protect people's health right from the grassroots level.
According to Ms. Hang, in the past time, non-communicable disease screening, vaccination and community health care activities have been widely implemented. However, many people still have the mentality of only going to the hospital when the disease is severe, leading to the risk of late detection and increased treatment costs.

At the ceremony, Ms. Nguyen Thi Be Muoi - Vice Chairwoman of Vinh Long Provincial People's Committee emphasized that the campaign is not only a medical professional activity but also a social security policy with profound humanitarian meaning. The goal is to help each citizen have their health checked and monitored periodically at least once a year, thereby detecting early risks of disease and improving the quality of life.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Be Muoi requested localities, functional sectors and unions to promote propaganda, review subjects, organize scientific examinations, and ensure that all people have access to health check-up services. At the same time, the health sector must ensure professional quality, build a health database to serve long-term health care for people.

As one of the people participating in the program, Ms. Le Thi My (80 years old, Long Chau ward) shared that this is the first time she has had a free health check-up and disease screening. Previously, when she was sick, she often bought medicine herself or only hospitalized when her health deteriorated, because she did not have the conditions to go for regular check-ups to detect the disease early.
I am very happy to hear about the free examination program. Older people like me are often reluctant to go for examination because it is expensive. Now that I have had my health checked by a doctor and received specific advice, I feel more secure and know how to take better care of myself," Ms. My said.
According to the plan, in June 2026, the health sector will prioritize screening for 100% of children under 6 years old at commune and ward health stations. From July 2026, when the Law on Disease Prevention takes effect, the campaign will be accelerated with the goal of completing health checks and electronic health records for 100% of people in the province in 2026.
