On the afternoon of July 18, the 1st Dong Thap University Cup Open Student Football Tournament - 2025 officially opened.
Attending were Mr. Nguyen Xuan Vu - Vice President of the Vietnam Football Federation - along with representatives of leaders of departments, branches, schools and nearly 1,000 players and fans.
In this tournament, there are 8 teams representing 8 universities and colleges participating. Of which, there are 7 universities, including: Cuu Long, FPT Can Tho, Dong Nai Technology, Kien Giang, Vinh Long Technical Pedagogy, Ho Chi Minh City Physical Education and Sports, Dong Thap and Saigon College of Science and Technology. The 8 teams are divided into 2 groups, competing in a round-robin format.
Then, select the 2 teams with the highest scores in each group to compete in the next round. The tournament took place at Dong Thap University Stadium (No. 783, Cao Lanh Ward, Dong Thap Province).
According to the draw results, the teams of Mekong University, FPT Can Tho, Dong Nai Technology and Saigon University of Science and Technology are in Group A, the teams of Kien Giang University, Vinh Long Technical Education, Ho Chi Minh City Sports Education and Dong Thap are in Group B.
After the opening ceremony, the two teams of Dong Thap University and FPT University Can Tho entered the competition. After that, the teams will compete in the qualifying round and semi-finals on December 19-25, 2025 to select the final team and award the prize on the occasion of the solemn national celebration of the 78th anniversary of War Invalids and Martyrs Day (July 27, 1945 - July 27, 2025).
