On July 30, the Chairman of the People's Committee of Hung Yen province signed and issued a telegram on the drastic and synchronous implementation of solutions to prevent and control African swine fever in the province.
According to statistics, as of July 29, the whole province has had an epidemic in 14 households in 11 villages of 8 communes, including: Dong Thai Ninh, Dong Thuy Anh, Ngu Thien, Quynh Phu, Nguyen Du, Van Xuan, Viet Yen and Hong Quang. The total number of sick, ill, and dying pigs that had to be destroyed was 350, equivalent to 12,850 kg. Developments show the risk of the epidemic spreading if there are no timely and thorough control measures.
The Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee requested the People's Committees of communes and wards to strengthen inspection and supervision of each livestock household; organize extensive propaganda so that people are aware of the level of danger and epidemic prevention measures; Request households and livestock farms to strictly apply biosafety procedures, regularly clean, disinfect, fully vaccinate pigs and promptly report the epidemic situation.
In particular, communes/wards with test results positive for African swine fever virus must urgently isolate and thoroughly handle the outbreak as soon as it is first detected. The People's Committee at the commune level is fully responsible to the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee if the epidemic spreads.
The destruction of pigs must be carried out in accordance with professional procedures; spraying poison and disinfecting once/day for the first week and 3 times/week for the next 2 weeks in the epidemic area and surrounding households. At the same time, organizing general cleaning and disinfection in the entire area is at high risk.
The Department of Agriculture and Environment was assigned to establish working groups to directly go to the grassroots to direct, urge, and inspect epidemic prevention and control work; instruct localities to detect early, thoroughly handle outbreaks, and prevent them from spreading.
The Department is also responsible for advising on timely chemicals, closely coordinating with the People's Committees at the commune level, the Police, Market Management, and the Provincial Military Command in inspecting the transportation, slaughter, and trading of pigs and pig products, strictly handling violations of quarantine, food safety and epidemic prevention.
The People's Committee of Hung Yen province requires the entire grassroots government system to take drastic and proactive action, not allowing the epidemic to seriously affect livestock farming, people's lives and food safety in the province.
