Bamboo is one of the fast-growing and CO2 absorbing plants. Bamboo is expected to become a biological alternative material for plastic, steel, and cement. However, the bamboo industry in Vietnam is still dispersed and lacks proper investment.
Bamboo Foundation Social Enterprise Joint Stock Company (a non-profit organization) held a launching ceremony of the Vietnamese Bamboo Development Fund and officially introduced the initiative "Luy Tre Lang".
The Vietnam Bamboo Development Fund was established with three main goals: preserving the cultural and ecological values of bamboo; raising public awareness of the role of bamboo in sustainable development; and promoting research on bamboo applications in architecture, construction, fashion, agriculture, and economic development.
The "Luy Tre Lang" initiative is the first key activity, aiming to build an ecological village model that applies bamboo in life and community tourism. The project also creates livelihoods for people through handicraft products, ecological services and environmental education.
According to Mr. Nguyen Tuan Khoi, Chairman of the Vietnam Flowers Development Fund, sharing, "Through the Fund and the "Luy Tre Lang" initiative, we hope to create ecological belts, sustainable development communities and especially reduce carbon emissions."
The event opened a series of activities in response to World Bamboo Day (September 18), including the Vietnam Bamboo Forum, where experts, businesses and the community gathered to discuss solutions for developing the national bamboo industry.
