According to the report of the Traffic Safety Committee of Ben Tre province, from December 15, 2023 to December 14, 2024, there were 155 road collisions and traffic accidents (TNGT) in Ben Tre province. Thereby, 136 people died, 25 people were injured, and property damage was about 479 million VND. Compared to 2023, the number of cases increased by 18.32%, the number of deaths increased by 21.43%, and the number of injuries decreased by 13.79%. Of which, 72/155 road traffic accidents were related to alcohol concentration (accounting for 46.45%), and 16/155 traffic accidents were related to school-age children (accounting for 10.32%).
The report also stated that the main cause of traffic accidents leading to death is due to the awareness of traffic participants. In addition, there are also errors such as driving on the wrong side of the road, not controlling the steering wheel, lack of observation, unsafe overtaking, unsafe turning, not giving way to vehicles on the main road, not giving way to pedestrians crossing the road, not driving on the right side of the road, etc.
According to a source from a reporter from Lao Dong Newspaper, Mr. Cao Minh Duc - Director of the Department of Transport of Ben Tre province, concurrently Deputy Head of the Traffic Safety Committee of Ben Tre province, signed and issued plan No. 150 on implementing the law's regulations on "not handing over vehicles to people who are not qualified to drive vehicles on the road".
According to this plan, in order to contribute to reducing traffic accidents in general and traffic accidents involving students in particular in the whole Ben Tre province and to raise awareness, sense of self-discipline in law enforcement, and gradually prevent the situation of handing over vehicles to people who are not qualified to drive vehicles to participate in traffic (focusing on parents, guardians and students), the Traffic Safety Committee of Ben Tre province requested the Department of Education and Training to compile a list of students who drive to school by themselves to coordinate with local police and functional forces to inspect and manage.
The Traffic Safety Committee of Ben Tre Province requested the Ben Tre Provincial Police to direct the Traffic Police force in the whole province to implement the peak period of ensuring traffic safety and order for school-age children according to the Plan of the Ministry of Public Security. Through patrolling, controlling, handling violations and investigating and resolving traffic accidents related to school-age children, handling according to regulations on the act of handing over vehicles to people who are not qualified to drive vehicles to participate in traffic.
In 2024, the Traffic Police force of Ben Tre province detected and recorded 38,725 violations, an increase of 6,745 records. Of which, 10,108 cases were handled for alcohol concentration violations, an increase of 1,350 cases, and 9,273 speed violations, an increase of 5,047 cases.
