According to Thai Binh Provincial Police, the causes of drowning cases are very diverse, from children bathing in ponds and rivers without adult supervision, to adults being careless in the process of working and producing in river areas.
The hot weather at the beginning of the season is also a factor that increases the risk of drowning. Children often go to rivers, lakes, and ponds to cool down, while their swimming skills are limited or not fully equipped with knowledge about water safety.
In addition, some areas of rivers, canals, lakes... do not have full danger signs, safety barriers, or professional rescue forces.
In the face of the above situation, strengthening measures to prevent drowning is extremely urgent.
First of all, authorities at all levels, departments, branches and organizations need to step up propaganda and education on drowning prevention. The content of the propaganda should focus on raising people's awareness of the risk of drowning, instructing on safety skills in water, drowning rescue skills and first aid. Swimming training and guidance sessions for children and adults should be organized regularly and widely.
Second, it is necessary to strengthen inspection and supervision of river, lake, pond, and canal areas, especially those at high risk of drowning.
Review and add warning signs, safety barriers, and arrange on-site rescue forces at key locations. Strictly handle violations of regulations on waterway traffic safety, illegal sand and gravel mining, causing unsafety to people.
Third, families and communities need to increase their responsibility in protecting children. Parents and adults need to care for and closely monitor their children, not letting them go to rivers, lakes, and swimming pools without adults accompanying them.
Teach children about safe underwater skills, instruct them to stay away from dangerous areas. Building a safe and healthy living environment for children.
Finally, each citizen needs to voluntarily raise awareness of safety, equip themselves with the necessary knowledge and skills to prevent drowning; always be vigilant and on guard against possible dangers in river areas.
"Shooting in water is an accident that can be completely prevented if everyone raises their awareness and responsibility. Do not let tragic deaths continue to happen just because of a lack of due attention" - message from Thai Binh Provincial Police.
