Within the framework of international cooperation activities on carbon market research, with the support of the Government of Canada, the University of Economics - Vietnam National University, Hanoi will organize an international workshop on "orientation of the global carbon market and Vietnam: Assessments after COP30 and next directions". The event was held in Hanoi from November 25-26.
The workshop gathered policymakers, scientists, businesses, international organizations, representatives of management agencies and media agencies to discuss, share experiences and promote the development of the global carbon market and Vietnam, as well as financial mechanisms to encourage the development of green carbon in a sustainable, transparent and consistent with the commitment to net zero emissions by 2050.
The workshop will share international experience in establishing and operating a carbon market; expand opportunities for exchanges, promote policy dialogue, enhance capacity and international cooperation between parties; discuss solutions to balance supply and demand; build an institutional framework and promote and perfect policies for developing the forest carbon market; enhance capacity for businesses and stakeholders to develop the forest carbon market in conjunction with the goal of reducing emissions and sustainable development.
The workshop was held in person and online, creating conditions for exchanges and discussions between experts on the topics discussed in the workshop. The workshop attracted a lot of attention from leading experts in the environmental field, domestic and foreign scientists, policy makers, businesses, media agencies and international organizations.
Outstanding speakers include: Prof. Dr. Terry Sunderland University of British Columbia ( Canada); Prof. Dr. Pham Thu Thuy - Flinders University (Australia); Dr. Leimona Beria - Head of Climate Change Group, CIFOR; Mr. Todd Darren Berkinshaw - CEO of NatureCO.
In addition, the workshop also had the participation of many leaders and representatives of government agencies, policy-making agencies such as Representatives of the Department of Climate Change, the Department of Forestry and Forestry (Ministry of Agriculture and Environment); Representatives of Vietnam Airlines, VinaCapital, WWF, EarthDaily and many international organizations and Vietnamese enterprises.
Accordingly, during the 2 days of the workshop, domestic and international experts will discuss the overview of the global carbon market and Vietnam, the legal framework for organizing and developing the carbon market in Vietnam, and international carbon credit trading.
In particular, experts also discussed the contents related to the global carbon market after COP30. The mechanism to operate the global carbon market in the context of fluctuating policies, opportunities, as well as challenges that the global carbon market is facing, solutions to promote the green carbon market as well as mobilize the participation of the private sector in developing the carbon market in the new context.
