Pho Hien Ward (Hung Yen province) has just issued a warning about the risk of drowning in children when the hot season begins, after the tragic incident that occurred on April 9 in the old Yen Lenh ferry terminal area - a place identified as a high-risk hotspot, where drowning incidents often occur.
According to local information, the accident killed a 6th grade student, residing in An Chieu 2 residential group. The incident not only caused great loss to the family but also sounded an alarm about drowning in children during the summer.
Immediately after that, representatives of the Pho Hien ward government including leaders of the Department of Culture - Society, Youth Union, Red Cross Society, along with the Board of Directors of Lien Phuong Secondary School and the residential group visited, encouraged, and shared with the victim's family.
From the above reality, Pho Hien ward recommends that families need to strengthen management and supervision of their children, especially during summer vacation. Schools should promote propaganda and equip students with drowning prevention skills; and coordinate with local authorities to review and install warning signs in dangerous areas.
In addition, creating safe and healthy playgrounds for children is also identified as an important solution to limit unfortunate accidents that may occur.
