Seminar "Electricity saving and rooftop solar power: Solutions to reduce power supply pressure in the period 2026 - 2030" organized by Cong Thuong Newspaper in coordination with Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN), Southern Power Corporation (EVNSPC) on April 21.
This is an activity to contribute to the implementation of Directive 10/CT-TTg of the Prime Minister "On strengthening the implementation of electricity saving and developing rooftop solar power" with the goal of striving to save at least 3% of total electricity consumption nationwide in 2026 and during peak hot months (April, May, June, July 2026), saving at least 10% of electricity consumption.
According to the Organizing Committee, in the first 3 months of the year, electricity demand in the southern provinces continued to maintain an increase compared to the same period in 2025, mainly concentrated in industrial, service and urban areas.
Many localities recorded high increases such as Tay Ninh (8.20%), Ca Mau (6.54%), Lam Dong (6.03%)... showing that electricity demand for industrial production, business, services and living is clearly increasing.
Entering early April 2026, hot weather appeared early and lasted widely, especially in the Southeast region, with temperatures exceeding 36°C for many days. Harsh weather conditions caused the demand for cooling equipment to increase sharply, leading to a sudden increase in electricity load.
Statistics show that electricity consumption in Ho Chi Minh City and southern provinces and cities has increased higher than the record level in 2025.

According to Mr. Trinh Quoc Vu - Deputy Director of the Electricity Department, Ministry of Industry and Trade - in Power Plan VIII, the Prime Minister has approved the program to develop power sources from now to 2030, in which the total solar power capacity is oriented to develop from about 46,000 to 73,000 MW.
In the total capacity of about 46,000 MW of solar power, the goal is to develop about 26,000 MW of rooftop solar power and more than 20,000 MW of concentrated solar power.
To realize this goal, the Power Plan VIII clearly defined the goal that by 2030, 50% of roofs of public offices and households will be installed and covered by solar power.
Currently, Vietnam's total solar power capacity, including rooftop solar power and large-scale solar power, has reached more than 19,000 MW.
The Ministry of Industry and Trade has completed the draft decision on mechanisms to encourage and promote the development of rooftop solar power in households, has consulted ministries and sectors and is currently submitting it to the Prime Minister for consideration and approval.
If we have a suitable mechanism, and at the same time remove barriers and obstacles in administrative procedures, then there is a complete basis to believe that the goal of developing rooftop solar power capacity and output according to Power Plan VIII is feasible," Mr. Vu said.
At the seminar, the speakers focused on clarifying the electricity supply picture in 2026, proposing effective electricity saving solutions, promoting sustainable development of rooftop solar power, and solutions to contribute to reducing pressure on the national power system.
