HCMC discovers 5 establishments violating food safety

In the Action Month for Food Safety in 2026, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Food Safety inspected 310 establishments, discovered and administratively sanctioned 5 establishments.

The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Food Safety has just reported on the results of implementing the Action Month for Food Safety in 2026 (April 15 - May 15).

The unit simultaneously deployed 30 food safety inspection teams at 310 establishments, detected and administratively fined 5 violations with a total amount of 133,000,000,000 VND for the following violations: doing business in food services where the Certificate of eligibility for food safety has expired and sewer drains in the store area and kitchen are stagnant and not covered.

In addition, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Food Safety conducted food safety inspections of business households at Binh Dien wholesale agricultural and food market and Hoc Mon wholesale agricultural and food market. The unit discovered cases of pigs imported into the market not in accordance with regulations at Binh Dien wholesale agricultural and food market with 6 cases of food safety violations, with a total fine of 24,595,000 VND, destroying 770 kg of ready-made poultry meat.

According to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Food Safety, most inspected establishments are conscious and seriously comply with food safety regulations.

However, periodic inspection work according to plan, with prior notice according to regulations, has not properly assessed the actual conditions for food production and business of the establishment.

Some food business establishments registered for operation have specific addresses that are only offices, only place signs to complete legal procedures, do not have working activities at offices or online business, and frequently move business locations, making it difficult to contact business owners and inspect.

In addition, the weather is starting to get hot and sultry, leading to food that is at risk of being easily damaged and spoiled when stored improperly, easily causing incidents that cause food safety hazards.

In action month 2026, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Food Safety has coordinated with relevant units to conclude the food poisoning case that occurred at 2 facilities of Dang Thuy Tram Elementary School (facility 1: 215 Tran Xuan Soan and facility 2: 37/2 Huynh Tan Phat, Tan Thuan ward) provided by Xich Long Production, Trading and Service Co., Ltd. (No. 27A, Street 14A, Bank Apartment Building, Tan Thuan ward) on April 24.

Among a total of 1,306 people who had lunch on April 24, 112 people showed symptoms, 54 people had to go to the hospital, and no deaths were recorded. The cause of death was steamed duck eggs with pork contaminated with Salmonella spp and Escherichia coli.
