The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction has just sent a document to relevant units, requesting them to urgently accelerate the installation of electric motorbike charging stations and battery exchange cabinets on sidewalks.
According to the plan, from now until the end of April 2026, the whole city must deploy the installation of 60 charging stations and 3,000 battery exchange cabinets. By the end of 2026, this number is expected to reach 100 charging stations and 20,000 battery exchange cabinets.
However, the current implementation progress is still slow compared to the requirements. The Department of Construction has announced a list of 762 locations with 2,111 battery exchange cabinets; of which 300 locations have been licensed for use, equivalent to 850 cabinets.
However, businesses have only installed in reality at 173 locations with 411 cabinets, not ensuring the volume according to the direction of city leaders.
To remove obstacles and accelerate implementation, the Department of Construction assigned the Ho Chi Minh City Traffic Management and Technical Infrastructure Center and the Urban Traffic Management and Operation Center to urgently review the entire infrastructure system assigned to management such as bus stops, sidewalks, vacant land, land strips along canals and ditches...
Through this, make a list of locations eligible to install charging stations and battery exchange cabinets, and send them to the Department of Construction before April 10, 2026.
At the same time, units must be responsible for proposing installation locations on sidewalks to ensure traffic safety, urban aesthetics and comply with current regulations; promptly guide and handle proposed and arising problems.
The Department of Construction also requests to strengthen inspection and supervision throughout the installation and operation process. In case of construction not in accordance with the content of the permit, exceeding the time of temporary use of roads and sidewalks or causing unsanitary conditions, traffic safety and order, units must coordinate to inspect and handle according to regulations.
For implementing businesses, the Department of Construction requests to urgently review the list of locations that have been announced, and accelerate procedures for temporary licensing of roads and sidewalks and construction and installation on the ground.
The goal is to install and put into operation over 3,000 battery exchange cabinets throughout Ho Chi Minh City before April 20, 2026.
