At the press conference in April 2026 held on April 24, Dong Thap Provincial Police said that the social order and safety situation in April 2026 continued to have notable developments as the number of criminal offenses increased. According to statistics, compared to the same period in 2025, social order crimes recorded 118 cases (compared to 71 cases), killing 8 people, injuring 35 people, and causing property damage of about 89 billion VND. Functional forces have investigated and solved 77.1% of cases, arrested and handled 230 subjects.

Notably, although murder crime decreased in number of cases, it is still at a worrying level, with 5 cases causing 5 deaths, accounting for 4.2% of the crime structure. The main causes originate from temporary conflicts in daily life and relationships. Some serious cases have occurred such as murders due to traffic collisions in Trung An ward; the case that killed a member of the grassroots security and order protection force in Tan Long commune; or the murder due to jealousy in Tan Hoa commune.
Intentional injury crime increased sharply, with 29 cases, an increase of 31.8% compared to the adjacent one, accounting for the highest proportion (31.8%) in the crime structure. The majority of subjects are teenagers, the causes stem from minor conflicts, impulsive words, psychology of liking to express themselves, and lack of emotional control skills.

Many cases gather late at night, use alcohol and beer, and carry weapons to resolve conflicts.
Worryingly, the crime of sexually abusing people under 16 years old increased sharply with 15 cases, an increase of 10 cases compared to the adjacent one, accounting for 12.7%. The main acts include intercourse with people from 13 to under 16 years old (9 cases), rape (4 cases) and molestation (2 cases). Common tricks are through social networks to get acquainted and lure victims.
Some cases involve acquaintances and relatives of victims, while the lack of care and management from families and limitations in sex education are also noteworthy causes. Property theft crimes have also increased, with 31 cases, an increase of 47.6% compared to the adjacent one, accounting for 26.3% of the crime structure. Subjects mainly take advantage of loopholes in property management to commit crimes.
Regarding crimes and violations of drug laws, functional forces have detected and handled 74 cases with 103 subjects. Including 22 cases of illegal possession of drugs, 3 cases of buying and selling, 9 cases of organizing use and 40 cases of illegal use. Currently, the whole province is managing 1,799 people using illegal drugs, 2,092 addicts and 2,762 people after detoxification.

In the fields of economy, environment and social evils, 48 cases with 31 subjects have been detected and handled; of which 23 cases are related to economy, corruption; 12 cases are about environment, food safety; 13 cases are related to resources and minerals.
Functional agencies also administratively fined 19 cases with 24 subjects, totaling more than 658 million VND. Notably, functional forces have cracked down on 33 gambling cases, handling 234 subjects. The hotspots are mainly small-scale but contain potential risks of crime and loss of security and order.
