On April 20, the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Dong Thap province said that in recent days, saltwater intrusion in the area has tended to increase again, coinciding with the high tide period at the beginning of March of the lunar calendar.

According to monitoring data on April 20, 2026, salinity at most measuring stations increased compared to the previous day. On the Tien River, at Xuan Hoa sluice gate (Binh Ninh commune) salinity was recorded at 2 g/l; Lac Hong Park area (My Tho ward) reached 0.94 g/l; Truong Chinh Tri bridge (Trung An ward) 0.37 g/l; and at Xoai Hot bridge (about 51 km from the river mouth) was 0.07 g/l.
Meanwhile, agricultural production in the Go Cong Sweetening Project area is still basically stable. The total production area of the winter-spring crop in the region reached more than 43,630 ha, of which the rice area of more than 20,300 ha has been harvested 100%. The area of vegetables, short-term industrial crops is more than 6,441 ha and perennial crops are over 16,889 ha.

Currently, the water source for production and living in the project area is still guaranteed, and no significant impact has been recorded from this saltwater intrusion.
According to the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Dong Thap province, after the high tide in early March of the lunar calendar ends, the salinity on the rivers will gradually decrease and recede to the river mouth area. Functional sectors continue to closely monitor developments, recommending people to proactively respond, ensuring production and life safety.
