Detailed ASEAN Cup 2026 football schedule

The Vietnamese team is in Group A of the 2026 ASEAN Cup with Indonesia, Singapore, Cambodia and Timor Leste.

Compared to Group B, which gathers Thailand, Malaysia, Philippines, Myanmar and Laos, Vietnam's group is considered more balanced. Indonesia is still the biggest opponent in the group top spot competition, while Singapore and Cambodia always have the potential to create surprises.

The confrontation between Vietnam and Indonesia is likely to decide the situation of Group A. The last time the two teams met at the ASEAN Cup was in the group stage last time at Viet Tri Stadium.

To prepare for the tournament, the Vietnamese team had a long training process with 3 friendly matches against Korean clubs before returning home.

After that, coach Kim Sang-sik's team continued to play the general rehearsal match with Myanmar and won 4-0. This is a match where the naturalized trio Xuan Son, Hoang Hen and Tai Loc all made their mark, and at the same time helped the coaching staff complete the main framework before entering the tournament.

ASEAN Cup 2026 takes place from July 24 to August 26. The group stage is played in a round-robin format, each team plays two home matches and two away matches to select the top two teams to enter the semi-finals.

The Vietnamese team will kick off their championship defense campaign with a confrontation with Timor Leste at a neutral stadium in Chonburi (Thailand) on July 24, before facing Singapore, Indonesia and Cambodia in turn.
