The Vietnamese national team will close the preparation phase for the ASEAN Cup 2026 with a friendly match with Myanmar at Thai Nguyen Stadium. This is also the final general rehearsal before coach Kim Sang-sik finalizes the official list to participate in the tournament.
In nearly two weeks of training in Korea, the Vietnamese team played 3 friendly matches to review the force and test many tactical options. The coaching staff created conditions for most players to play to assess their form as well as their ability to adapt to the new playing style.
Naturalized faces such as Xuan Son, Hoang Hen and Tai Loc all have the opportunity to show themselves, while key players including Quang Hai, Dinh Bac, Van Hau or Hoang Duc continue to be the foundation in the national team's squad.
On the Myanmar side, this team has just entered a new phase under coach Jorn Andersen. The Norwegian coach only has about a week to work with his students, so the match against Vietnam will be an opportunity for him to check the squad and shape the playing style.
In terms of relative strength and head-to-head record, the Vietnamese team is rated higher. However, the result is not the top priority for coach Kim Sang-sik and his team. The most important thing is to complete the squad, check tactical operation capabilities and have the best preparation before entering the journey to defend the ASEAN Cup 2026 championship.
