After the dramatic round of 16 matches, the 2026 World Cup has determined enough 16 teams to participate in the round of 16. Many championship contenders continue to advance and some teams create big surprises on their journey to the top 16.
In the first match, Canada will meet Morocco at 0:00 on July 5. The CONCACAF representative defeated South Africa with a score of 1-0, while Morocco defeated the Netherlands in a penalty shootout after the two teams drew 1-1 in 120 minutes.
The remaining match on July 5th is the confrontation between Paraguay and France. Previously, Paraguay surprised by eliminating Germany in a penalty shootout, while France won convincingly 3-0 against Sweden.
On July 6, Brazil will face Norway. To participate in this round, the South American team defeated Japan with a score of 2-1, while Norway continued their impressive journey with a 2-1 victory over Ivory Coast.
On the same day, Mexico met England. Both won convincingly in the previous match when Mexico defeated Ecuador 2-0, and coach Tuchel's team reversed to win against DRC Congo with a score of 2-1.
July 7 witnessed the attention-grabbing match between Portugal and Spain. Before that, Portugal had to wait until the last minutes to come back and win against Croatia 2-1, while Spain overcame Austria with a score of 3-0.
In the remaining match, the US vs. Belgium will have a very attractive confrontation predicted after successively defeating Bosnia (2-0) and Senegal (3-2) in the round of 32.
Also on July 7, Argentina will face Egypt. The defending champion went through a match that lasted until extra time against Cabo Verde and won 3-2. Meanwhile, Egypt overcame Australia in a dramatic penalty shootout.
The final match of the round of 16 taking place on July 8th is the match between Switzerland and Colombia. To be in the top 16, Switzerland defeated Algeria 2-0 and Colombia beat Ghana with a minimum score.
