On July 26, the Memorial Service for Heroic Martyrs, Revolutionary Soldiers and patriotic compatriots who sacrificed in Con Dao took place solemnly at Con Dao Temple. The program was organized by the City Party Committee, People's Council, People's Committee, Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee (VFF) of Ho Chi Minh City to celebrate the 79th anniversary of War Invalids and Martyrs' Day (July 27, 1947 - July 27, 2026).
The death anniversary ceremony attracted hundreds of delegates to attend, including: leaders of the City Party Committee, People's Council, People's Committee, Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Ho Chi Minh City; former leaders of Ho Chi Minh City; along with Heroes of the People's Armed Forces, typical former political prisoners, relatives of martyrs, people with meritorious services to the revolution and a large number of officials and people living and working in the Con Dao special zone.
Speaking at the program, Mr. Nguyen Phuoc Loc - Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee, Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Ho Chi Minh City - said that today Con Dao is considered a sacred place of the Fatherland, a place to which the whole country is oriented. Previously, this place was considered a mortal hell, imprisoning many patriots and revolutionary soldiers with cruel tricks to destroy the indomitable will of patriotic children. But it was in those dark and harsh circumstances that revolutionary will and patriotism burst out more brilliantly than ever. Thousands and tens of thousands of loyal soldiers turned prisons into revolutionary schools, maintaining integrity, fighting to their last breath for independence and freedom for the Fatherland.
According to Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Ho Chi Minh City Nguyen Phuoc Loc, history has been written by sacrifice, by feats of arms and will be even more glorious when preserved by gratitude and gratitude from today's and future generations. Each incense stick of gratitude lit is the promise and determination of the Party Committee, government and people of Ho Chi Minh City and the whole country before the spirits of the heroic martyrs.
In the coming time, the entire political system of Ho Chi Minh City will focus on implementing key tasks such as: Actively responding to and effectively implementing the movement to care for people with meritorious services to the revolution, fully implementing the morality of "Drinking water, remembering the source", "Gratitude"; strengthening patriotic tradition education, revolutionary ideals for the young generation; promoting the overall strength of the great national unity bloc; promoting coordination between Party committees, local authorities and units in implementing policies for people with meritorious services, ensuring continuity, practicality, associated with social security policies according to the motto of leaving no one behind.
At the same time, it is proposed to develop the Con Dao special zone to rise strongly, become a green growth pole, a meaningful destination with unique values; develop the socio-economy of Con Dao associated with preserving and preserving revolutionary and national historical values; growth associated with preserving marine biodiversity, forest biodiversity and ensuring national defense and security.
