Attending the meeting were leaders of the Central Vietnam Association for Victims of Agent Orange/dioxin, leaders of Lao Cai province and nearly 200 delegates who are victims, relatives and collectives and individuals who have made many contributions to the care of people affected by Agent Orange.
According to information in the program, Lao Cai is currently paying monthly allowances to more than 2,000 people who participated in the resistance war and were infected with chemical toxins and their children, with a total budget of over 88 billion VND per year.
The subjects are also fully guaranteed regimes on health insurance, health recovery nursing, education, training and social security policies according to regulations.
In the period 2021-2026, through the coordination of the Provincial Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee, the Red Cross Society, the Association for Victims of Agent Orange/dioxin, and localities, businesses and philanthropists, the whole province has mobilized over 9 billion VND to support Agent Orange victims.
The funding is used to build and repair houses, support livelihoods, medical examination and treatment, free medicine distribution, wheelchairs, scholarships and tens of thousands of gifts for victims.
Specifically, on the occasion of the 65th anniversary of the Agent Orange/dioxin disaster, the province has supported the construction and repair of 149 houses for children of resistance war activists infected with chemical toxins, and at the same time organized health check-ups, medicine distribution and presented many gifts to victims.
Speaking at the program, Major General Do Hong Lam - Vice Chairman of the Central Vietnam Association of Agent Orange/dioxin Victims - acknowledged the results Lao Cai has achieved in caring for and supporting victims in the past time.
He emphasized that the consequences of Agent Orange still last through many generations, so the locality needs to continue to mobilize the participation of the entire political system and society to care for and help victims, contributing to easing the pain of Agent Orange.
On behalf of the provincial leaders, Mr. Nguyen The Phuoc - Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Lao Cai province - expressed his gratitude to wounded soldiers, sick soldiers, resistance activists infected with chemical toxins and families of Agent Orange victims; and thanked organizations, businesses, and philanthropists for accompanying the locality in social security work.
Mr. Phuoc requested all levels and sectors to continue to fully implement policies for people with meritorious services and victims of chemical toxins; promote the mobilization of social resources, innovate the operation of the Association of Victims of Agent Orange/dioxin to better care for the lives of members.
Within the framework of the program, there was also an exchange activity with victims, relatives and individuals who have been attached to supporting people affected by Agent Orange for many years, spreading stories about the will to overcome difficulties and the spirit of sharing.
On this occasion, many agencies, units, and businesses continued to support the Provincial Agent Orange/dioxin Victim Support Fund, raising the total budget of the fund to nearly 400 million VND.
To celebrate the 65th anniversary of the Agent Orange/dioxin disaster in Vietnam, the Chairman of Lao Cai Provincial People's Committee awarded certificates of merit to 10 collectives and 15 individuals who have made many contributions in caring for and helping Agent Orange victims.
The organizing committee also presented 200 gifts to victims and families of victims participating in the program.
