More children's mental health care facilities in Ho Chi Minh City

Ho Chi Minh City Mental Hospital facility 3 has just officially launched, aiming for a more comprehensive, specialized and friendly model of child mental health care.

On September 11, Ho Chi Minh City Mental Hospital held the launch ceremony of facility 3 at 3 Thang 2 street, Minh Phung ward.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Phuoc Loc - Member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee, Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee (VFF) of Ho Chi Minh City assessed that from the meeting on August 11 to now, in about 1 month, the health sector and Ho Chi Minh City Mental Hospital have urgently deployed relocation, repair, renovation, preparation of facilities, equipment and human resources to put the facility into operation on schedule.

Mr. Nguyen Phuoc Loc said that the city continues to review, arrange and effectively exploit redundant facilities and headquarters; select suitable locations to renovate and convert functions, serving the urgent requirements of the health sector.

For the Mental Hospital, the city will continue to pay attention to solving the material facilities problem in both the short and long term. Facility 1 will be reviewed and suitable space will be selected for relocation, arranged in a larger and more spacious space. Thereby, both improving treatment conditions for patients and creating conditions to reduce overload for existing facilities.

In the long term, the city is promoting investment in a 1,000-bed Mental Hospital and a 1,000-bed Mental Nursing Center, gradually forming a mental health care system with scale, facilities and professional capacity to better meet the needs of the city.

According to Dr. Nguyen Dang Khoa - Director of Ho Chi Minh City Mental Hospital, facility 3 was formed on the foundation of the Department of Child Psychology - Psychiatry, aiming to build a more comprehensive, specialized and friendly child mental health care model. The facility was renovated with the coordination of the Ho Chi Minh City Center for Disease Control (HCDC).

Only after 2 days of operation at the new location, facility 3 has received more than 440 visits. Initial results show the actual needs of the people, and also show the stability in the organization and operation of the medical team at the new facility.

In the coming time, the hospital aims to strengthen examination, screening and early diagnosis; develop methods of psychological intervention, rehabilitation, personal therapy, group therapy, behavioral intervention and support for children with developmental disorders. The hospital also researches and develops daytime treatment models, strengthens coordination between the health sector and schools, pediatrics, rehabilitation, special education and related units.

On this occasion, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Ho Chi Minh City coordinated with the Ho Chi Minh City Union of Friendship Organizations to donate a playground for children in the premises of Ho Chi Minh City Mental Hospital facility 3 with a total budget of 70 million VND.
