This afternoon (September 18), the tropical depression has strengthened into storm No. 8, international name is Mitag. Information about the development of this storm is waiting for people to pay attention. Mr. Nguyen Van Huong - Head of Weather Forecast Department, National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting analyzed the location and time of the storm's landfall.

Sir, what is the forecast for the next developments of storm No. 8 and please tell us where the storm will make landfall?
- It is forecasted that in the next 24 hours, the storm will move northwest at a speed of about 15km/h and will continue to strengthen. The storm will then continue to move west-northwest at a speed of about 10km/h, making landfall in Guangdong province (China) around tomorrow afternoon and night and weakening into a tropical depression. The tropical depression will move deep inland and weaken into a low pressure area and gradually dissipate.
Thus, it is unlikely that storm No. 8 will directly affect the mainland of Vietnam.
What are the forecasts for notable impacts caused by storm No. 8, sir?
- Due to the influence of storm No. 8, during the day and night of September 18 and the day and night of September 19, the northeastern sea area of the North East Sea will have strong winds of level 6 - 7, gusting to level 9; the area near the storm's center will have strong winds of level 8-9, gusting to level 11, waves 3-5m high. The sea is very rough. Ship operating in the above-mentioned dangerous areas are likely to be affected by thunderstorms, whirlwinds, strong winds, and large waves.
However, before that, Although Typhoon No. 7 made landfall in Guangdong province (China), the post-typhoon circulation also caused thunderstorms in the North. So what about this storm, sir?
- We believe that after weakening into a low pressure area on mainland China, this low pressure area is likely to move south towards our country, causing a widespread thunderstorm in the Northern provinces from September 23 to 24.
Sincerely thank you!
