Warning of the risk of flash floods and landslides after heavy rain in some communes and wards in the Northern region and Thanh Hoa.

Updated bulletin issued at 7:30 am on August 24 from the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, in the past 24 hours (from 7:00 am on August 23 to 7:00 am on August 24), the area of the Northern provinces and Thanh Hoa had moderate to heavy rain, with very heavy rain in some places such as Na Tau 2 monitoring station being 110mm (Dien Bien); Muong Men 160mm (Son La); Van Mai 238mm (Phu Tho); Quan Chu 164mm (Thai Nguyen); Duc Long 90mm (Cao Bang); Binh Gia 125mm (Lang Son); Yen Lap 253mm (Quang Ninh); Co Phap 129mm (Bac Ninh); Cat Ba 275mm (Hai Phong); Co Lung 136mm (Thanh Hoa);...

The soil moisture model shows that some areas in the above provinces have been near saturation (over 85%) or reached saturation status.

Warning in the next 6 hours, the Northern provinces and Thanh Hoa provinces will continue to have rain with accumulated rainfall commonly in Thanh Hoa 30 - 60mm, in some places over 80mm; Quang Ninh and Hai Phong 20 - 40mm, in some places over 60mm; Dien Bien, Son La, Phu Tho, Thai Nguyen, Lang Son and Bac Ninh 10 - 30mm, in some places over 50mm.

In the next 6 hours, there is a risk of flash floods on small rivers and streams, and landslides on slopes in many communes/wards.

Warning level of natural disaster risk due to flash floods, landslides, subsidence due to rain, floods or currents is level 1, Lang Son and Quang Ninh is level 2.

Flash floods and landslides can have very negative impacts on the environment, causing local traffic congestion, affecting the movement of vehicles; civil and economic works causing damage to production activities and socio-economic activities.

The meteorological agency recommends that functional agencies in localities pay attention to reviewing flow bottlenecks and key locations in the area to have preventive and response measures.
