Workers work overtime to clean the surface of West Lake
Speaking with Lao Dong, Mr. Nguyen Phu Hoan - West Lake Management Board (Tay Ho, Hanoi) said that after Lao Dong Newspaper reported on the situation of dead fish causing a foul smell for people living around the lake, the unit immediately directed Drainage Enterprise No. 1 to clean up the dead fish in the West Lake area.
According to Mr. Hoan, the Board has requested Drainage Enterprise No. 1 to increase equipment and personnel to carry out and be on duty on the surface of West Lake to thoroughly clean up.
"The West Lake Management Board has directed the sanitation unit to prevent fish from dying during the changing seasons like every year in September and October. Especially in the area of Nguyen Dinh Thi Street and Trich Sai Street," Mr. Hoan added.
Mr. Nguyen Van Trong - Officer of Drainage Enterprise No. 1 (Hanoi) said that after receiving information about the fish deaths, the company arranged for more workers to clean up and work overtime to soon return fresh air to the people.
“At this time, the hot weather gives off an unpleasant stench, but the workers still encourage each other to try to collect dead fish and clean up. Quickly clean up the environment, not to affect the famous tourist area of Hanoi,” Mr. Trong added.

Mr. Nguyen Dac Nghiem - a tourist from Bac Giang said that early in the morning, while walking with friends around West Lake, he saw sanitation workers collecting garbage and dead fish.
“The staff cleaned up thoroughly, and there was no longer a strong stench as the media had mentioned in recent days,” Mr. Nghiem added.
According to Mr. Nghiem, everyone hopes that the West Lake Management Unit will always monitor and closely follow up to handle the situation promptly, not allowing the situation of garbage and dead fish causing odor to reoccur.
Having lived in the West Lake area for 60 years, Ms. Ngo Thi Oanh (Tay Ho, Hanoi) said that the fish deaths have been going on for a long time, and in the past two days the dead fish have caused a foul smell.
According to Ms. Oanh, since the morning of October 17, the West Lake sanitation team has continuously gone around the lake to collect waste and dead fish to reduce the stench of dead fish.
“I feel very happy to see the West Lake space in front of my house become green, clean and beautiful. When I go to exercise, I don’t have to endure the stench like in the past few days,” Ms. Oanh excitedly shared.
