On the afternoon of September 9, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Vietnam Olympic Committee organized the Launching Ceremony of the Vietnamese Sports Delegation to participate in ASIAD 20 in Japan from September 19 to October 4.
The send-off ceremony was honored to welcome Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Prime Minister Pham Thi Thanh Tra; former Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Chairman of the Vietnam Olympic Committee Nguyen Van Hung; Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Hoang Dao Cuong; Director of the Vietnam Sports Administration Nguyen Danh Hoang Viet; Deputy Director of the Vietnam Sports Administration - Head of the Vietnamese Sports Delegation at ASIAD 20 Nguyen Hong Minh and leaders of the Vietnam Sports Administration...
Speaking at the ceremony, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Prime Minister Pham Thi Thanh Tra said: "I deeply believe that athletes will strive to break through and continue writing a golden page in history, showing the rise of national sports. Sports are not only a way to improve people's health and stature, but also to show the spirit of overcoming difficulties and promoting the image of the nation and people of Vietnam in the new era.
The Deputy Prime Minister also expects Vietnamese sports to strive to achieve good results on the existing foundation achieved at ASIAD 19, and at the same time expects Vietnamese sports to compete breakthrough, surpass themselves, strive to complete or exceed set targets; enhance the noble and honest sportsmanship, carry the pride of Vietnamese children, spread the image of friendly, martial, modern, civilized, and integrated Vietnamese people; respect opponents, comply with the law and customs of the host country.
At the ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Hong Minh - Deputy Director of the Department of Physical Education and Sports, Head of the Vietnamese Sports Delegation to ASIAD 20 said: "Immediately after SEA Games 33 in 2025, the Vietnamese Department of Physical Education and Sports proactively comprehensively reviewed the force of coaches and athletes nationwide.
On that basis, priority has been given to focusing resources on investing in training the best athletes at national sports training centers. At the same time, sending many key teams to train in countries with developed sports such as France, Japan, China and South Korea to achieve the conditions to reach the highest performance at ASIAD 20. Up to this point, all preparations for ASIAD have been completed.
Mr. Minh emphasized that the Vietnamese sports delegation will compete with a spirit of honesty, nobility, calmness, confidence, ingenuity and perseverance to achieve the highest results. Each athlete will strive to overcome their own limits to excellently complete the professional targets set out, and at the same time, the whole delegation is determined to strive to change the color of medals in the group of key sports to create a solid stepping stone for the next ASIAD cycles.
The Vietnamese sports delegation participating in ASIAD 20 with 498 members, including 340 athletes, along with a force of coaches, international experts and medical staff.
According to the plan, the teams will depart in many phases depending on the competition schedule, of which the most crowded phase is expected on September 16. The Vietnamese sports delegation aims to win 4 or more gold medals at ASIAD 20.
