Schools in Ho Chi Minh City are flexible when textbooks are not fully delivered

Ho Chi Minh City - When some students have not received enough textbooks, schools are proactively implementing many plans to ensure that learning is not interrupted.

Waiting for paper books, students still study normally

According to Ms. Nguyen Doan Trang - Principal of Tran Van On Secondary School, the school has reviewed and statistically analyzed the demand for borrowing textbooks of students. Depending on the grade level, the number of students registering to borrow is about 25-40 sets.

The list of students in need has been compiled by the school and registered with the supplier. However, so far, the supplier has not been able to deliver a complete set of books, but is delivering each book title.

The school has received a number of books, and at the same time counted, statistically analyzed and guided students to use them. It is expected that from tomorrow (September 10), the school will begin distributing the books that have been provided to students who need to borrow.

For books that have not been fully delivered, Ms. Trang said that students' learning is not much affected. The school has requested homeroom teachers to proactively provide electronic textbooks or guide students to access information pages to find and use online textbooks.

In addition, subject teachers also proactively provide digital materials and learning materials on learning software for students to refer to while waiting for books.

In fact, teachers do not require students to have textbooks to be able to study. The teaching content is still proactively implemented by teachers, textbooks are mainly materials for students to refer to and learn more" - Ms. Trang said.

At Nguyen Van Troi Elementary School, Mr. Tat Quoc Thang - the school principal - said that teachers have supported textbooks for students who do not have books, and at the same time exploited electronic learning materials to serve teaching and learning.

Currently, we have textbook data, so it is not necessary for every student to have books immediately. Having books is even better, but in this period, the school is still flexible. Teachers can still perform teaching normally, without affecting students' learning" - Mr. Thang said.

Mr. Thang added that the source of electronic textbooks provided by publishers is also shared by the school with parents so that students can look up and refer to them while they have not been issued or borrow paper books.

At Hiep Tan Elementary School, Ms. Nguyen Thi Minh Nguyet - Principal of the school - said that there are currently more than 20 students registered to borrow textbooks.

The school is contacting the book supplier and is expected to have books available for students to register to borrow in the near future. While waiting for the books, teachers will send an electronic book link for parents and students to refer to.

Currently, most students have fully equipped themselves with textbooks, only a few have registered to borrow. The fact that some students do not have books right at the beginning of the year does not greatly affect teaching and learning, because teachers can flexibly organize group activities, let students use books together or change learning forms while waiting for books" - Ms. Minh Nguyet said.

Review and supplement missing books

According to Lao Dong's records, although the new school year has begun, in recent days there have been parents coming to buy textbooks in Ho Chi Minh City.

At Vietnam Education Publishing House in Ho Chi Minh City on Nguyen Van Cu street, the situation of parents queuing to buy books is still recorded.

The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training said that it has requested educational institutions to urgently review the needs, book sources at libraries, the number to be supplemented and coordinate with publishing units to fully meet textbooks for students.

According to the Department, to date, basic education institutions have ordered or have plans to prepare textbooks for students.

The Department also requested Vietnam Education Publishing House to focus on coordinating and promptly supplementing the remaining books in each area; strengthen direct supply through coordination with educational institutions and distribution systems, meeting both the need to borrow books at school and the self-purchase needs of parents and students.
