The atmosphere of preparing to welcome Mid-Autumn Festival - Reunion Tet is bustling, but the weather in the days leading up to the full moon of August is still fluctuating in many areas. Heavy rain continues to appear on a large scale in the Central and Southern regions. Forecast information on heavy rain developments is awaited by people.
Ms. Pham Phuong Chi, from the Weather Forecast Department, National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, said that in the period before the Mid-Autumn Festival, i.e. tonight and tomorrow, September 24, heavy rain will continue to appear on a large scale in the area from Quang Tri to Da Nang city, the east of provinces from Quang Ngai to Dak Lak, Khanh Hoa province, Lam Dong and Southern Vietnam.
The common rainfall ranges from 40 - 80mm, locally over 150mm, especially in the area from Quang Tri to Da Nang city and eastern Quang Ngai, the rainfall may be even greater and locally over 250mm" - Ms. Chi said.
According to a representative of the Weather Forecasting Department, from the night of September 24, heavy rain will gradually decrease in many areas.
By September 25, which is the Mid-Autumn Festival, the heavy rain area will narrow and will still be concentrated in Ha Tinh to Hue city, Lam Dong province and the South. Common rainfall is 30 - 60mm, locally over 120mm in the South and Lam Dong. In the area from Ha Tinh to Hue city, rainfall is from 50-100mm, locally over 200mm" - Ms. Phuong Chi added.
Ms. Chi also especially emphasized that while in other areas thunderstorms have decreased significantly, mostly only in the form of localized rain, note that in the Central Highlands region during the Mid-Autumn Festival, there may still be rain, moderate rain and scattered thunderstorms, locally heavy rain.
Hanoi capital on September 25th will have little rain, temperature fluctuating in the range of 30 - 32 degrees C, intermittent sunny days. Ho Chi Minh City will continue to have moderate rain, heavy rain, locally very heavy rain with the highest temperature in the day 27 - 29 degrees C" - Ms. Chi provided more information.
The meteorological agency warns that heavy rain may cause flooding in low-lying areas, urban and industrial areas; flash floods on small rivers and streams, and landslides on slopes.
